And by the "middle of nowhere" I literally mean middle of nowhere, in places where you wouldn't expect a restaurant to be.

Hawk's - Rayne
Hymel's - Convent
Hilltop Inn - Head of Island
C'est Bon - Mermentau
D.I.'s - Basile

Hymel's is still OK, not as good as it used to be, but passable. I don't like that they don't serve real catfish anymore, they serve that imported trash catfish.

Good call on Spahr's... one of my good friends (Gerard Spahr) families owns it.

Marginal at best the last two times I've gone.

I have found it less than average. Just my opinion.

How about Mosca's?

Mosca's is easily one of the most overrated places I've ever been. Just my opinion.

As for Spahr's, I love the gumbo, catfish chips, onion sticks, softshell crab poboy, and of course the bloody marys.

You haven't done it right.

Had them all many times. I really think Spahr's is terrible. A stop over between NOLA and Houma/Raceland for business and the only thing I like about it is calling alligators out of the canal out back.

Not sure what I could have done wrong... had everything that was recommended -- crabmeat salad, shrimp, oysters. Didn't care for any of it. Went to Sal and Judy's the next day and had a meal that was 100 times better, and cheaper.

I must admit, I haven't been to Spahr's since it burned down and was rebuilt. But, about 10-15 years ago I used to go quite a bit, and I liked it a lot.
