The Chinese Inn/Restaurant on nicholson is good. I love the fried rice and find the food to be of different quality than the take out places. They stopped the buffet during covid, I haven’t been back yet.

in Hammond and it was awesome. Last time I went was in 1995 when my wife graduated SLU
The Trey Yuen/ Wong clan were at the top of the Asian game during the 70's, 80's and 90's. Their places in Hammond, Mandeville and the Jax Brewery won national acclaim. Sadly, they haven't been the same for a decade or more. The flagship Hammond site has been closed for 3-4 years. Mandeville is only one open now and the quality and innovation are long gone. Sad to say.

I remember seeing them on Great Chefs in late 90s

Was very good many moons ago. We'd cross the lake to go eat there from time to time.
I also liked Five Happiness on Carrolton many moons ago.
In BR, though, good Chinese is a thing of the past. All the really GOOD ones have shut down. Oriental Pearl on Sherwood does pretty damned good, but it's buffet Chinese, not GOOD Chinese. Chinese for Americans.
I've heard good things about Lee's out in Denham as well, but I never made it out there because Omi was so close to me.

I just find it to be very mediocre. Then again, I'm not looking for the Americanized stuff, which was why I like(d) the places I mentioned. You can find the same old Americanized stuff pretty much anywhere.

I hope it makes a resurgence soon
Pho (Vietnamese), Korean BBQ and Thai are all very good types of Asian cuisine, but you rarely see a good Chinese place, especially a newer restaurant.

Foo Chow in Walker used to be good.
Went a couple weeks ago and was disappointed.
I will not be back anytime soon.

Doesn't help anyone today, but you BR old timers may remember China House on Greenwell Springs. Outstanding food and drinks.
They moved to Connell's Village in the mid-80's and it wasn't the same.

Wasn’t there also a Bamboo Garden or am I remembering that wrong?
I do remember Taste of China for sure.
Does anyone from Central remember the Chinese place (sit down) that I think was in the shopping center where Oak Point is now? Near Video USA, Eckerd, etc. I just remember the massive light up artwork thing in the dining room.

Bamboo Garden was off Sherwood Forest and I-12. Actually, it may have been Bamboo House. It was right across the street from Red Roof Inn and Chuck E. Cheese

That was a Nine Dragon at one point. Not sure if it was something different before or after.

I think you're right. I just asked my mom and she told me it burned down and they never reopened. The place was nice though. I feel like there were so many clean, decent places to sit down for Chinese food growing up. Today they're almost all the picture menu takeout-only places with maybe a couple crappy tables mostly used for waiting on takeout.
Superfresh - that's a name I haven't heard in a long time

Yeah that's right. Here's a link to the Central Speaks article on it in 2011: LINK
I didn't eat Chinese back then but I remember a lot of my friends were distraught when it burned lol
