Best old school Italian
Which is better , Gino’s or diguilio bros ? Any others better worth trying for traditional old school Italian ? Coming in Friday for the game and in the mood for something different. My wife and I always find ourselves going to Ruth’s for steak or superior for Mexican food . Thanks

They’re both solid, but if forced to choose I’d pick Gino’s.

Diguilio brothers was always my favorite when in Baton Rouge. I love the atmosphere and in addition to absolutely incredible Italian food they have the best red velvet cake I have ever had too.

Nino’s

If you think Nino’s is old school Italian you have never been there or your parents pressed on your soft spot.

Yeahhhh, I wouldn’t go quite that far. Sal & Judy’s blows Gino’s away, and there are multiple other superior options in NOLA.

BINGO.... that being said they do present a fine meal, possibly the best in town under the broad Italian label. Old school, give me Gino's, overall give me Nino's

simply cause I prefer the dark, small café setting. Plus, beef tips and orzo pasta is the tits. I don't know if there is a better lunch in BR.

Both are very good. I prefer Gino's because I like certain dishes there, but you can't go wrong with either.

Delicious, but hardly old school Italian.

For "old school Italian"? Nah, New Orleans sadly really has nothing that comes close. One day, perhaps, I'll try Sal and Judy's, but his brother's place in Fat City does nothing for me.

S&J in fat city must have closed close to 10 years ago.

Not sure what old school Italian is but I would recomend in the New Orleans area:
Mosca’s
Venezias
Mandina’s
Pascal Manale’s
Vincent’s
Fury’s
Fausto’s
Giolando’s

I haven't been to Marcello's since they were supposed to re-open at Southdowns.. Have they re-opened? How is it? The Lafayette location is outstanding.

In New Orleans, I would add Italian Barrel and Red Gravy to the list.
