Looking to buy a new gas grill for the back porch. Looking at the Weber genesis models. Anyone have any experience? And would I be better off with a pellet grill of some sort? Not familiar with them. Just want something that I can fire up on short notice and throw chicken or burgers on, really.

The Genesis for $700 is well worth it. I've had mine for over 10 years and still works as good as the day I bought it. I did replace the 'flavorizer bars' once, pretty cheap, and it keeps on rolling. It is so simple for steak/burgers/chicken/fish. I also own a kamado cooker that I use for long slow cooks, but it is too much trouble and time to fool with it for the short quick cooks. I love it and highly recommend it, you won't be sorry.

I bought a Weber Genesis last fall and love it. It replaces a 5 burner Charbroil that I had since 06 and was tired of replacing parts almost on a yearly basis to keep it working well.

The Weber is a good bit heavier built and a lot more of a solid feel to it. It is also way easier to clean than the old Charbroil I had. Mine is the basic 3 burner and that thing gets to 600+ degrees real quick when all the burners are on high.

I probably grill between 80-100 times a year living here in N.O. where the winters are mild and grilling is a great option.

The one I have has the hanger for the tank and a gauge that goes up and down to indicate the level of fuel. As the fuel is used, the level indicator rises. It's not 100 accurate, but a good enough gauge so you can keep an eye on it to change out the tank before you run out of gas.

I'd get another one in a heartbeat if this one wears out, but at my age, it will likely outlast me.

Any Weber is great.
I have the spirit and it's been going strong for 5 years now.

Get a Weber. Do yourself a favor and register it with Weber online. Makes it easy to order parts if you ever need to.

I’ve got a 3 burner Weber Genesis that I’m very happy with. I wish I used it more than I do.

I had a Charbroil Pro infra Red that was a total POS.

I have the Weber Spirit (two burner) for just my wife and I.
Anybody ever think about replacing the flavorizer bars with 2” angle iron? Would last a lot longer.

That's exactly what I did with my old Charbroil pit. It would eat up those "flavorizer" bars every year until I got tired of replacing them and went with heavy duty plain steel angle iron. Those lasted at least 4 years before I replaced a couple of them.

Just don't use galvanized treated angle iron.

I had a Weber Spirit for many years, followed by a Genesis for a few more years. Never had to replace the flavorizer bars in either, and I lleft them out in the weather under the eaves of the house.

You won't have any regrets. This grill improved my game because is easy to maintain steady temps. It was harder on cheaper grills.

I got tired of replacing grills every couple years and bought a genesis and it still cooks the same as the day I bought it 6 years ago. Weber has the best customer service in the industry, I called them to see if they had any touch up paint for the lid on my Smokey mountain and they sent me a whole new lid free of charge. I also bought another natural gas genesis off craigslist for $50 which I couldn’t pass up. Called Weber and they sent me new burner tubes and thermometer free of charge. They stand behind their warranty.

Man i have a weber spirit three burner i bought about ten years ago. The bottom rusted out but that's because i didn't keep it covered.

After ten years i recently replaced the burners. That's how long they lasted. The thing cooks fantastic, gets screaming hot and cooks evenly across the surface. I love it.

Oh and the pellet grills. Although i don't own one, I've read where you have to supplement the smoke pellets with a "smoke 'n tube" or something like that when you're low and slowing it because too little smoke is produced. And if you're gonna high heat cook, they really blow through the pellets fast.

Read up on those, i think folks have mixed thoughts on them.

As i write this, i'm smoking a cuban style butt on my egg knock off.

I got lazy, didn't do it and had i done it, the warranty would've covered the burners i had to replace almost ten years after i bought it.

Weber.

I used to have a Char Broil and burned more meat on that thing, I could have bought a Weber.

Called Weber a couple of weeks ago about the cross over tube on the burners rusting out. They sent it and a whole set of burners. They said I still have two years remaining on warranty.

Cooks like day one!

I actually just bought a Genesis II three burner this afternoon. $700 is a pretty steep price, but when you look at the fact that it has a 10 year warranty, it doesn't seem too bad. And most, if not all, Weber owners that I know have had their Genesis longer than 10 years.
