Whole heartedly disagree

You can get much better for the same price than Veuve. Much much better.

Look for a Billecart-Salmon or Pol Roger for basically the same price as Veuve. Both are much better.

Very much agree.

Love Billecart

I have had Crystal Dom P and champagnes in that class. They’re are great but not that much better than a good grower’s champagne costing well under $100.

Now that I’m going down this champagne rabbit hole, I’ve found some small growers that swear to have the best champagne for much less than the bigger names. I have to say, I’m curious.

For this event though, I think I have to get a “name”. This cat wants to show off a bit.

I’m just not totally sure to what degree he wants to show off.

I’m liking the idea of getting some 1.5 liter bottles of the expense but good stuff and then less expensive but also good for the passing around.

Billecart is fantastic, Pol Roger is a cut above. But agree wholeheartedly. Was talking last week about this crazy champagne festival that was in New Orleans around 2010-ish. They rented a whole hall in the convention center and stocked it with champagnes running the gamut. Had a whole room upstairs just devoted to Krug. You could taste whatever you wanted as much as you wanted. The guy putting it on had a daughter who was an aerial acrobat and had one of those silk things for her to perform.

Maybe 10 people showed up.

You should ask him for the budget.

I agree but he told me that price was not an issue and he was adamant.
I don’t know what he knows about champagne but I can easily see me spending over 150,000 if price literally didn’t matter…

For me, as I said for the baller bottle it would Krug.

However, for this crowd, if they are not wine people at all and think Caymus is the tits, maybe Dom would be the way to go (not to compare Dom to Caymus, Dom is actually very very good. Its just the name people really know).

In the wine world, among Sommelier's and whatnot, Krug is revered.

But everyone knows Dom so that may be the way to go. Or Cristal.

Get a case or two of the entry level Billecart-Salmon (they also make baller bottles) for the masses.

But then go get a magnum or double magnum of something baller. That way you have good champagne for everyone to guzzle and a baller bottle for photo ops, a toast, spraying, what have you.

Great idea here. Go even larger than the double magnum. That will make a big statement. Nothing impresses the ladies like a large format bottle of Champagne.

Everyone is going about this the wrong way.

If money is no object, the party should be held in Champagne.

I like Roederer Brut for myself. It's the same vineyard that produces Cristal. Cristal is 200-250 a bottle and I might want Cristal for a celebration if money's not a serious concern.

I have had Cristal and it was fine, but I would rather just buy 5 bottles of Roederer

I agree. I had a bottle of Cristal last week that that someone gave me. It was fantastic but if I am going to spend $300 on one bottle of wine, it is going to be a red Bordeaux or Burgundy.

I've drank 20 dollars bottles and 1000 dollar bottles and both taste like shite. Wine is much better.

I take it you are not a champagne aficionado.
