But you shop at Tammy's
And to see 2 dudes pull semi auto gansta pistols on each other. I crave some excitement with my shrim fide rice.

The one thing I miss about living in Las Vegas is the superior grocery shopping. I had a Food4Less to buy dairy, bulk items and certain staples. Smith's for meat specials and produce. These two supermarkets are part of the Kroger family. Sunflower for specialty produce, coffee beans and bulk nuts and grains. Trader Joe's for specialty items. And Costco whenever necessary. All were located within about 5 minutes drive time from my home.
Baton Rouge just plain sucks by comparison.

If ever you find yourself in the Pacific Northwest hit up the Fred Meyers stores for vittles. They were Whole Foods before WF reached thier present status.

verpriced food to help hipsters feel self important. I also don't like the faux-local feel they try to perpetuate when they are as corporate as any other chain.
I'm not a whole foods promoter, but I don't really tend to find their prices on a lot of things that high. I buy fresh proteins and veggies there, and find them often very comparable to Albertson's, but paying a premium for fresher(and it's often noticeable).
I would never do my "everyday" shopping at a WF, but they serve a good purpose and I'm glad BR has one.

Central Market
Is seriously awesome. Blows Whole Foods and Fresh Market out of the water IMO

Central Market

Prices > anything else... for most folks.
Agreed, and it's hip to reflexively bash Wal-Mart, but it is the only grocery store I have ever been to where there are reliably fruit flies buzzing around the produce aisle. I just refuse to eat it. They do have good prices on frozen stuff though.
It's also hip, among a different group of people, to bash Whole Foods, but I sure as hell have never seen fruit flies in their produce aisle. Given an unlimited budget, it's the only place I'd shop. (Of course, given balls, my aunt would be my uncle. )

I went to the Central Market in Houston - they're only in TX. LINK Had a grill going outside with hamburgers, salmon burgers, chicken, etc and a band playing. Their salad bar inside probably had about 50 items on it, and tons of other specialty kiosks in the store for charcuterie items, olives/marinated items, any cheese you could think of, great meat and seafood selection, bakery, flowers, really good beer and wine selection... it was like Heaven on Earth.

A&P has tons of stores up here. I shop there every weekend.
Trader Joe's is ok, but I wouldn't shop there for my weekly groceries. Pathmark sucks.

I shop at Publix and Costco. Like them both.
Publix has figured out the market in Florida. Winn Dixie and others are trying to be the low cost leader and are being eaten alive by Walmart. Publix is the anti-Walmart. Everything is easy to find, their stores are well-lit, and their meats/bakery items are very good.
Their prices aren't bad, either, as they have more BOGO items than most stores.

The thing I dislike the most about Publix is I always walk out of there not being able to find 1 or 2 items & I have to go someplace else.

A and P was the first supermarket in New Iberia. But I wouldn't call it a supermarket. Back in the 50s it was the only chain grocery in town and the only one with air conditioning throughout instead of just the meat/produce section.
But the most magical thing about AP was it had our first Soda Pop Machine. You opened a tall skinny glass door and pulled out a bottle. If you let it slip you lost your quarter.

One up you Zach. We had one of these at school in Abbeville in the techers lounge. No teachers, a bottle opener and a long straw = all the free pop you could drink!

A QUARTER??? They used to be just ten cents, and I remember cutting the shite out of my hands as a kid trying to navigate the bottles out of those upright dispensers.
There was a toy gun back in the day that shot plastic disks that was the size and weight of a dime back in those days, and you could use them in these machines as well as other vending machines.
Ah, but I digress.
