I can’t imagine what that feels like. Maybe people should cut him some slack on his statement. Same for anyone losing a business and their livelihood because of this.

I do feel some sympathy and he had some interesting and valid points to raise. But the city has a million and one problems, and renaming streets is not a priority (to say nothing of the overt socialist rhetoric of these types). I'm over this charade of out of towners trying to destroy the city's social fabric by using black lives matter as a trojan horse to impose deranged world views. This entire movement is seemingly fueled by service industry types who moved here within the last decade.

New Orleans’ restaurant industry is nothing without these “out of towners”. I couldn’t imagine the lack of growth without them.

New Orleans wants so bad to be progressive, but they don’t want any of the politics that come with it. It just so happens that foothold was already here; just didn’t have the education & platform to really butt heads with the suburban whites & generational blue bloods.

Progressive =/= radical

The city needs basic infrastructure befitting of a first world city before it can even attempt to be progressive and here we are where the civic discourse has been hijacked by people who want to abolish the nopd, etc. As I said before, the restaurant scene is already oversaturated here. While I fear for many of the restaurants viability in light of Covid, we aren't in danger of having it supplanted overnight by corporate chains. I'd rather we attract a middle class or companies that actually generate wealth, which sandwich shops do not do. Instead the spotlight is on a mob that has no interest in either attracting or participating in real, sustainable industry.

Amen

Our food scene was fine before we had $12 bologna sandwiches.

Adolfo Garcia has gone way above that. He is actively holding fundraisers for borderline domestic terrorist organizations and is ACTIVELY supporting them through his restaurants.

I have made it clear to my wife that any restaurant that supports financially Take Em Down NOLA we will not be supporting. It sucks because I like Good Bird and La Boca/High Hat/Ancora, but I will not be going anymore. I have never actively "boycotted" a place before, but that group is too far.

ETA: Taking out the BLM stuff from the Bellegarde post, I agree with a lot of it. The city and state ownership has signed death warrants for a lot of the restaurants in the city.

Nothing about his letter is radical though.

I agree 100% about the infrastructure. Sounds like he does too.

Maybe he doesn’t agree with BLM but feels he has to mention it or face additional consequences.

Bar Frances closed yesterday too

Been closed since March. For lease sign went up mid/late June. Thought it was odd that all of Freret was back open except for them.

A lot to unpack there but can someone in local media maybe explore why we gave $17 million in tax dollars to an out of state company. Think of the lifeline that could have provided to a lot of restaurants.

I do like that he supports the NRA. Maybe a different NRA, but in the neighborhood they are in, I hope it's the 2nd ammendment NRA.

You really think the person who wrote that would support the NRA?

It’s The National Restaurant Association

If you look in the comments in that tweet, the owner of Piccolo is openly teaming their landlord. It’s pretty bad lol

Probably does agree, but I think he is using it more as an example of a movement and not the movement.

Like Eric Cook he is saying that there is plenty of blame to go around and all leadership has said one thing and done another when it comes to small businesses.

100% correct and has nothing to do with the original movement after martin and zimmerman got into it.
