BATON ROUGE – LSU has announced that Torchy’s Tacos and AT&T will fill two retail spaces in the university’s Nicholson Gateway Development, a mixed-use project located on a 28-acre site of the Nicholson Drive Corridor, between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive.
Torchy’s Tacos, a popular Austin, Texas-based taco chain, will open its first location in Louisiana in early 2020 occupying more than 4,000 square feet of space in the Gateway Center’s endcap space facing Nicholson Drive. The fast-casual restaurant is known for its Tex-Mex-inspired menu, including a variety of unique tacos and signature cocktails. Torchy’s started in 2006 as a food truck and has since grown to more than 60 locations across Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Arkansas.

The two new tenants join anchor retailer Matherne’s Market, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Private Stock, Frutta Bowls, The Simple Greek and Baton Rouge General Express Care in the roughly 50,000-square-foot retail component of Nicholson Gateway. An additional 11,000 square feet of rooftop space remains available for lease.

4000/sf for a taco shop...

Has anyone tried The Simple Greek?
After they closed my precious Almaza, I've been starved for good, reasonably priced Greek food.
Albasha Express is bland
Roman's is way overpriced

For the only taco shop worth a damn in the whole city.
That place will make a fricking killing

I was hoping they would go some where mid-city or Perkins overpass area, but I guess I can't blame them for essentially putting it on a campus with 30,000 college kids.

Surely you jest. Maybe you meant to add “owned by white people” to that statement. El tio, La tiendita are great and I’m sure there are others

Simple Greek is nothing special other than convenience to LSU
Most other Baton Rouge greek restaurants are much better

I shudder to think how fat a 19 yr old me would be if I lived in the Nicholson Gateway with a Wendy's and a taco shop a mere seconds from my doorstep.

I bet you by 2022 there will be a couple more Torchy's locations in the city. Seems like one would do well by the Mall of Louisiana or in the Perkins-Essen area.

Never been there but my overall point still stands

I enjoy the hell out of Torchys. Went on Sunday and got a ranch hand breakfast taco and a bloody mary for about $7.
Its fajita beef, eggs, cheese, and some hot sauce. The best thing is that they do it traditional style where they leave the tortilla open and just top the whole thing with food.

Their breakfast tacos are next level. Usually get that no matter what time of day I go. They don’t skimp on the egg and meat.
I hate that they went away from the Maine Root sodas tho.

Simple Greek looks like a lesser Zoe's Kitchen to me.
Adult me is jealous that they have a full grocery store in Mathernes. It has to be the cheapest/best lunch on campus. Though, college aged me probably would have only went in there for booze. LSU has come a long way from the the Pentagon Mini-Mart with their featured Hot Pockets.

Looks like it is Greek food not Middle Eastern like the others you mentioned.

So the frick what if it’s owned by white people. Absolutely irrelevant.
Thy don’t claim to be some sort of "muy authentico" establishment.
So tiring to see all this shite on white people bs
People like their tacos, and they aren’t bad at all.
Also, even your authentic taco joints in BR are inferior.

I hope they put one in another part of the city too which I believe was the original plan. I don't make it over to the campus area too often other than for sporting events.
