It's been a minute since I've been to CP...20+ years, truth be told. But the wife and I are flying in for a quick weekend trip on 10/7 because we have vouchers and she's never been. Plan is to hit either Gris Gris or Cochon Butcher for lunch/brunch, cocktails at Cure NOLA and a 9:00 reservation at Commander's that Saturday.

I feel like a dick asking this, but is my poplin suit acceptable on that particular time and date for Commander's?

Thanks for the insults and derisions and a hearty "frick you" ahead of time.

Seriously, any advice would be appreciated. I want my wife to get the full experience.

More than acceptable.

Last time I was at commander’s, they let people bring their dog with them if eating on the patio.

You certainly won’t be underdressed in a poplin suit, and it will, unfortunately, still likely be hot.

What color is the suit?

Some would say that a cotton suit, particularly lighter colored, is inappropriate after Labor Day. I think that's a little ridiculous, particularly in the deep South.

Regardless, you'll likely be one of the best dressed people there if you're wearing a suit. Most people barely try anymore, so good for you for doing so.

Typical poplin...it's khaki colored.

Your mention is exactly why I asked. I don't mind being overdressed, but I do want to be dressed within the rules; my wife deserves it.

Would Emily Post have a coronary? Probably. But the days of Emily are long gone. You've likely be one of the better dressed people in there. I was at CP in June and it was clear, sadly, that nobody cares anymore. Food was top notch though. Enjoy.

I seriously want to know who we petition to change that damn rule. It's going to be 93 in the shade in two weeks. What works in Maine doesn't work in NOLA.

Went a few years ago and they really relaxed on their jacket requirement. In a suit, I felt overdressed compared to a lot of people there. Didn’t help it was winter and they had the heater cranked. Hot as hell.

Food was 10/10 but the interior decor is so bad it’s almost puzzling.

shite I said 10/7; I meant 9/9. 10/7 is the date of my shoulder replacement surgery.

Now we know what's on my subconscious mind.

Since covid most have been lenient on dress code as long as it’s reasonable
They want the business
Galatoires didn’t enforce theirs

I live about a block away. Dress in khakis and long sleeve shirt for brunch or lunch sports jacket and slacks for dinner. You will be fine. The only thing I have seen people turned away for is shorts open toe shoes on men and t shirts. Have a great time. Food is always good

went in February 2018 and husband wore slacks and a sport coat and I wore a dress. Sat us next to the people of Walmart in jeans. I did not expect it and was not pleased. Food was good. Decor is wtf and I love vintage homes and businesses. It was an odd experience for sure.

I was there for brunch this past Sunday. Most men were in jackets. Saw a couple in polo shirts or a short sleeve button down, but most were wearing jackets. You will be fine.

Also, the meal was outstanding. Enjoy!

As for your other plans, Cochon is great, and the same goes for Cure. Cure is our 2nd favorite cocktail stop behind Jewel of the South. Been to Gris Gris a couple of times. It’s fine, but I don’t get the hype. Many other better places, IMO.

Any kind of suit is acceptable but I would not go there without a jacket.

You’re going to want to dress that down, no tie.
