Yes. First my mother, then her friends and my maternal grandmother, about fifteen chefs, thirty years plus worth of every cooking magazine that I have read. My favorite/best dish is a simple answer, the one I am cooking now. I have cooked for about sixteen different nationalities producing thier cuisine and never had a complaint. ETA Two years of a three program for apprentice chefs which I had to drop out of when I returned to LSU to get a degree. One recipe that I developed was stolen by as ex-coworker won a grand prize at a food show in BR 24 yrs. ago. BITCH!!

Sweetbreads, one of the greatest things ever, but there is always something that I haven't tasted yet that may upset the order of rank.

I could never catch on to cooking Southern style like my mother. Everything I made looked & tasted terrible. I still have never fried chicken. When I got married, my husband introduced me to a whole new way of cooking. He put garlic in almost everything & used spices & herbs I had never heard of. Everything was fresh and simple and delicious. I was so inspired for the first time to cook. Now, I love to and am not intimidated at all in the kitchen. Unless you ask for something Southern style (as in country cooking.)

when there is something that needs to be cooked in my family there are two people that get called upon. I am one of them. Dont know if that makes me a good cook or if the rest of my family is just too lazy or terrible at cooking.
Depends on who you ask, but here are some dishes that dont have too many leftovers:
-jambalaya & white beans
-Gumbo
-Pork chop/chicken stew
-Fried fish & shrimp
-Shrimp Stuffed Bellpeppers
-Macaroni and cheese
-green beans and bacon
-Duck/Deer poppers
-Lebanese food

Are you a good cook?
Yes

If so who taught you and what's your best dish?
When I was in college my mother, who's an outstanding cook showed me a lot. When I was married my wife could burn water, so I took over the cooking duties and really got into it, consulting with my mother a lot. My brother, who's a very talented chef has inspired me since then however, and I've learned stuff that even my mother calls him for advise on today, so I'd say that my cooking skills improve at every passing day, the more I know, the more I need to know. I read quite a bit from chef's books, consult my CIA textbook, and also my brother of course. I honestly don't think you ever truly arrive. Stop learning and experimenting with different concepts and ideas and you die as a cook. You never arrive. You are either improving or you're stagnant.
eta... Best Dish? I don't know. Probably Gumbo? But then again, who doesn't make the best gumbo?

You have the same problem as my brother in the wifes cooking abilities upon marriage. The sadly laughable thing about her is she grew up in Thibodaux, and was a frickin home ec major in college. Her big meal when they first married was beanie-weanies.

i love to cook. i'll let others be the judge of whether I'm good or not but family and friends seem to keep coming back for more...
i learned to cook from my mom and dad. both loved to cook and had me helping in the kitchen from a very young age.
