I discovered sour beers this past summer and have really enjoyed them, but I can't find them anymore. Tin roof had a very tasty sour beer and I know that's gone, but are they generally seasonal?

I don't think so

Eta you should be able to find some sours. Someone in Baton Rouge will recommend where.

Eta2 I see you are in Alexandria. New Belgium and The Bruery make widely distributed sours. Are they available there?

Are there any particular beers that you’re not seeing anymore? I’m not sure if you’re looking for something like Sierra Nevada Otra Vez (widely available), or maybe something like Destihl’s Wild Sour series (which I’ve seen at Rouses but not too many other places), or maybe less widely released stuff like from NOLA Funk series. If you could find NOLA Dryades somewhere out there, man they did a great job with that one.

You like Otra Vez? That's the cactus beer, right? I love sours and hated that beer . OP where are you located? Sours are available all year long, you just need to know what you're looking for.

Can never go wrong with New Belgium's Lips of Faith series. I tend to see that one at a lot of places and it's pretty solid.

Wasn't that a gose? If so, most goses are seasonal summer beers.

As for the rest of the genre, no, they're generally not "seasonal" per se. It's more that they're ready when they're ready. You can find a lot on the shelves year round, but you might not have the same ones on the shelf year round.

No, sours are year round. Although I find I really only drink them in the summer.

Yes, I think that's the issue. Most gose will be released in the summer.

I have a decently hard time finding good sours too, though.

More and more places are starting to do those. I was in Cincy a couple weeks ago and they had one brewery that had a ton of sours.

They aren't seasonal but when a brewery does a sour, quite often it's a single batch and when it's gone, it's gone. The exceptions are breweries that specialize in sours (like Jolly Pumpkin) and they produce the same sour beer batch after batch.

Urban South has a great Cherry Sour Stout out right now (pickup at brewery only)

Also, go to whole goods and get some La Folie by New Belgium. (I think Calandros on Perkins also has a few 2015 bottles).

Sours seem as seasonal to summer as porters/stouts are to winter. Yes you can find some year round, but the releases For each seem to be more concentrated.

Thanks for all the replies. I am located in alexandria area and the gose beers are the only ones I've had. Abita's was the worst by far. I'll have to look around for some of the others mentioned.

Hocus Pocus used to carry a good assortment of sours (for Alex), but they seem to have got rid of all of their big format bottles, so I'm not sure how much you are going to be able to find in Alex

no bro, you should hit avenue pub in NOLA, great sour selection, as far as favorite sour breweries:jester king, american solera, degarde, rare barrel, casa agria and grimm are all great, but they either don't distribute to LA or its brewery only

Russian river makes world class sours but they're hard to find. Supplication is probably my favorite beer of all time. Had some sours from Cascade a while back that were outstanding too. Definitely a unique style especially compared to the ever popular IPA's.

I wonder why? Maybe the beer is a pain in the arse to brew or maybe the sour beer just hasn't taken off like the ipa's

It is a lengthier and more cpmplex process. IPA's = put a lot of hops. Then put some more hops. Dry hop it. Then double dry hop it. Give to neanderthal IPA drinker. Just kidding I love IPA's too
