I’m craving a hot dog (which is weird in and of itself), but I can’t think of anywhere around here to get one other than a lucky dog cart. I’ve never eaten one sober that I can remember and have no idea if they’re actually tasty or not. Are lucky dogs good? Is there a better option on the cbd side of the quarter?

If you are going to get one at least go to the one in Harrahs and not a cart.

Dat Dog is just on the other side of the quarter and much much better

No, Lucky Dogs aren't good.

If you're in NOLA, I'm sure you can find much better food. (Also, if you're in NOLA, RIP.)

I live here, so sometimes I want random things that aren’t necessarily available, like some cajun jambalaya.

At 2am in the Quarter there is nothing better.
Chili, onions and mustard.

Can't vouch for earlier times.

Not understanding all the love for Dat Dog. I have had a few different ones. They were good but..

Lucky Dogs is solid drunk hot dogs. Dat Dog is legit, the ability to pick as many toppings as you want is a huge plus. As someone else pointed out Shake Shack has a good hot dog.

“Good” is subjective. We’ve all had similar experiences.

About 25 years ago, I did see the great Chef Paul Prudhomme roll up to a Lucky Dog cart mid-afternoon on his powered scooter and chow down on one.

I see that as an endorsement

I remember them being fan fricking tastic at 1:30 am sitting on a curb on Bourbon around 38 years ago.

No, they're not.

That said, there's not a whole lot better at 2 AM during Mardi Gras than a Lucky Dog with chili, cheese, and onion on a soft fresh bun.
