I went turkey shopping yesterday and wanted a 10-13 lber for frying....all the butterballs were 15-16 lbs and up, so I grabbed a nice 12 lb kroger turkey. When I got to check out the thing was so on sale it ended up costing less than $4 which has me sketched out... did I buy 12 lbs of garbage?? Does it matter?

I cooked a Kroger turkey last year and it was fine. Most stores have their turkeys on fire sale right now- usually with a minimum purchase. I'm headed to Albertson's a little later to spend $30 so I can get my turkey for $.17/lb. 20lb turkey for $3.40? Yes please!

It's not really the money for the turkey they want from you, it's the money for the two buggies of food that go with it they're after.

It's most likely a name brand turkey just licensed under the Kroger brand. The price is to get you in the door.

Yep, look at how many "Kirkland" brand items are in Costco that are nothing but rebranded products of other companies.

Kroger was offering a free turkey with $125 purchase. I could have done that, if they count alcohol, but I went with a brand name that looked a little better. Still was discounted down to about $16.

One year I got a goose on the day after Christmas for $1 a pound, so $10. They are marked $40 or $50 right now.

This.

If the turkey ends up subpar, it's all on you. A turkey is a turkey.
