Went to a new brewery Saturday that had a nut brown on tap, it was really good.

If by fascinating individual you mean exhausted troll, I suppose I might agree.

That kind of Newcastle is long gone. Lagunitas screwed it up. Used to be my go-to summer beer
Lagunitas no longer brews Newcastle for the US market. It's all UK import now. Changed at the end of last year.
Now, I can't guarantee that Heineken hasn't ruined that version also but I'm willing to give it a shot when I see a UK one again.

Recommend abitas new triple dog. It's a vanilla flavored brown/porter. Kind of between the 2 styles. It's good though

Had some family from England come to the states a few weeks ago and they brought me 4 pints of Newky Brown. My goodness I missed that beer.

I work in the industry and we had a booth at the Craft Brewers Conference a couple of months ago. We had a beer station in our booth and the brewers themselves drank lagers and pils at about a 10/1 ratio over the IPAs we had on tap. They’re tied of brewing hazies and woukd be happy to switch if the people would stop buying them

I love lagers. Current favorite is Warsteiner Dunkel always on tap at Deutches Haus.

This is a delicious brown ale from Agile Brewing in BR. Love a good brown ale.

If I was at a conference I would drink something light as well. I like a pils or even better, a Hefe. But if I am drinking for taste it will be an IPA, Stout, Belgian abt quad, dubbel, Sour or the aforementioned hefe.

Did you find the gnarley barley?

Brew no. The brew time is based on how much sugars you can extract from the grains. This is more dependent on the amount of grains.
Condition yes. Hazies and IPAs are best drank as fresh as possible as the hop oils will fade over time. Pretty much all lighter colored ales would fall under this shorter time frame.
Lagers and stouts/porters need time to condition. Conditioning a lager clears it up and also makes it more crisp. Stouts and porters need the time to let the flavors meld. It smooths the strong bitter notes of the dark roast malts.

Lagunitas no longer brews Newcastle for the US market.
That's great to hear. I saw a post on another board a few months ago where a guy in NC stumbled across some "Imported from England" Newcastle in a store and posted a pic.
Everyone was confused, given the Lagunitas (shitty) situation. I guess his find was the leading edge of the new imports.
I googled your quoted sentence, and AI gave this (hopefully accurate) welcome response:
quote:
Yes, that's correct. While Newcastle Brown Ale is still sold in the US, it is no longer brewed by Lagunitas. In 2019, Lagunitas Brewing Company began brewing a re-imagined Newcastle Brown Ale for the US market. This version of Newcastle was brewed with a new recipe and American hops, marking a shift from the original recipe and brewing location. The original Newcastle Brown Ale is once again available in the US, brewed in the UK and imported by Heineken.

heavy IPA centric state of brewing for well over a decade now
It's been going on for a hell of a lot longer than that. IPAs are shite that smell like a clean barracks floor; if someone gets a Ghost in the Machine next to me at a bar, I'll usually move a seat farther away.
A good number of the "ambers" produced in America seem to be overly hopped (35+ IBU), and are a toss up whenever I see them. Look at the beer menu at World Of Beer; if my limit is about 25IBU, there are probably ten beers that are not domestic lagers that are drinkable on any given day.
I've never had a bad Irish red, though!

That’s a little over the top.

Well over there they call Newcastle "college beer" it's not exactly respected as good.

Found some at Total Wine in GA. Tastes pretty much like it used to, but not a fan of the new bottles. I know, first world problems.
