My wife signed up for Hello Fresh and with discount codes our first order was only ten bucks for three meals for two. Our next order will be $50. The portion sizes aren’t huge but one meal we tried was pretty good and easy to prepare. Was also impressed with how everything was packaged. I think it is a fairly decent value as well and it’s fun getting the box each week.

If you do it, I would recommend supplementing it with extra protein from the store.

It's nice not to have to get all the different ingredients for the meal, but they don't include enough protein IMO. It makes a nice leftover for lunch the next day.

We did it for a month or two. It is nice if you are feeding 2 mouths that are not finicky eaters. It turns into a complicated problem when you have young kids. Do you order the expensive option of 4 servings and risk them not eating it? Or do you order the two servings and feed the kids cereal?

The food quality itself was very good.

Did one called Plated a few years back. They actually had 3 serving meals, which were perfect for two adults and two younger kids. Would only get two a week. Which we found perfect for people who like doing your own thing and/or eat out.

Meals were mostly hits and always enough food for us. Great to be able to come home and just sort of mindlessly follow the steps two days a week.

Sadly, they went caput.

I think those things are dumb, but you clearly don't know what they are

I have known quite a few friends who did it, but they all eventually stopped after a few months. Plans would change, so they would sometimes have the foods go bad before they could cook them.

We did Hello Fresh for a few months but quit once we had a kid, it’s a good change of pace from our normal rotation when you can’t quite think of something different. We kept the recipes for the ones we like and still make them occasionally. Off the top of my head we still make some of the Mediterranean dishes, the black bean enchiladas(we add chicken), and they have a zucchini and squash flatbread/pizza with a lemon ricotta cheese base that we still make regularly.

I cook plenty. Like I said, it was a nice mindless respite twice a week with two parents working and running carpool, and better and cheaper than take out or a lot of grocery store type “convenience” goods.

I make no apologies, but it’s been several years since I’ve done it and that was the only one I had tried.

If you only use ingredients that you are gonna use up - especially things such as international ingredients, then you are correct. Per portion ingredient price is def higher, but if one were to make identical recipes and factor in ingredient wastage over time, then I would say the gap closes significantly.

I think if you're gonna do it, makes sense to just fill in what is otherwise cooked at home to add in some variety. And maybe give folks some credit and replace lazy with lack of confidence and you can make a better point. Food is so expensive these days, it pays to have a sure thing when you put something on the table.

In my limited experience with them, the portions tend to be small and the meals are pretty simple and straightforward, which isnt a bad thing.

The cons are that you have all these meals set for the week and plenty of times I end up not wanting to eat whatever it is. Ended up just cooking it as a leftover, eating what I dont want, or just wasting it. Speaking of wasting, I am not at all a omg I have to save the world, but holy shite they waste some plastic and materials with these things. Every ingredient is pretty much in its own packaging and the amount of trash after youre done with the box is absurd.

Individually these things are a fad

That was another reason given by my friends for stopping delivery. You have to commit to eating those meals when the ingredients are fresh whether you want to or not. Or at least commit to cooking them before they go South.

My wife and I like doing it when we get bored with our regular menu.

We turn it off when we get tired of it. We'll enable it for a month or so, cancel it for 3 months etc.

The food is generally pretty good. Some if it has a lot more calories that I typically want for dinner though.

same. I would end up creating something else with the ingredients and/or cooking the protein, putting tomatoes in my salad, and never cooking the rice.

My family likes HelloFresh. We do it 2-3 times a week when there are meal choices we like. If there aren’t at least 2 meals we like we won’t order that week. We do the burgers, tacos, rice bowls, and some of the pastas. It has gotten my picky 14 year old to try new flavors and it’s easy.

It’s a fun date night. Our menu had gotten a little stale and we had a bunch of fun cooking new meals together

We do Martha and Marley 3 times a week. It gives us flexibility for eating out or dinner with friends. It is nice to have 3 meals figured out for the week.

Did Home Chef for probably a year. It was good in that we fixed things we wouldn't normally fix. We still use a lot of the recipes.

You would be surprised how many folks did not learn how to cook at home.

I learned the basics but taught myself a lot in my early thirties.
