One half of the family insists on Turkey for Christmas.

We do and add a Ham for Xmas. We do Xmas eve dinner though and then steak/crab legs on Xmas day

Pretty close. I'm expected to smoke a turkey and a ham but the sides are usually different. Instead of cornbread dressing (that has chicken in it), I'll do a crawfish/andouille dressing. Instead of cabbage casserole, I'll smother some. Stuff like that.

Turkey for Thanksgiving. Christmas breakfast in the morning and gumbo Christmas night. I’m good with turkey though. We usually have a smoked turkey with other things for the Christmas Eve open house party.

MIL does. Cooks way too much food. Then tries to force people to take some home. No one takes any so she freezes everything including desserts and then serves it again Christmas. Gumbo OK, Rice Dressing and a few other things not so good. Been doing it for the 35 years I've known her.

No, we do something fancy for Christmas. I did a 5 course tasting menu last year but it was way to involved.
Going to just focus on a main and maybe an app this year and let others contribute sides

Thanksgiving is centered around the meal for most people. Christmas, the meal is just part of it. Also depends on when it falls in the week. Last year on a Sunday was easy to go all out and cook a big lunch or dinner.
I've got young kids, and the way things usually go is we go to a Christmas Eve service at church, then go to dinner after at my in-laws house. Wake up Christmas morning at home and the kids open presents, we drink coffee. Mid morning we head over to my in-laws still in PJ's for a big breakfast and we exchange gifts with them and just relax. Late in the afternoon we head home and get dressed, then head to my parents house to have dinner with them and my siblings and their families. Most of the time we grill, but sometimes Dad likes to prepare the traditional meal.

Only difference for us is that we get loaded on spiked boiled custard at Christmas. Everything else about the meal is the same.
Meats are turkey, country ham, and beef tenderloin. Sides are the standards. Desert never varies.

Same. Christmas with my immediate family and my SO's immediate family is in a restaurant. The extended Christmas Eve get-together is just a bunch of different foods set out for picking at your leisure. There's usually a main such as gumbo or shrimp and corn soup.
There's just too much hopping around between different sides of the family for anyone in my family to provide a formal sit-down meal.

When I was growing up it was the exact same meal.
Now I cook the traditional Thanksgiving meal, and then a big seafood gumbo for Christmas.

It usually depends on where we do Christmas. If it is at my house, then we do something different.
My wife's family has always done Feast of the Seven Fishes. The way they do it is to make a large pot of homemade marinara and will include seven types of seafood in it: crab legs, shrimp, some sort of white fish, mussels, etc. The sauce is served over a pasta of some kind. This is always done on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas day her parents like to do the traditional turkey meal, however if they come to visit us, I insist on something different. We've done homemade pizzas a couple of times. We did green chile chicken enchiladas (layered like the New Mexican style) last year. I'd like to do a prime rib this year if possible.

My wife's family does this too. They also do Italian food (generally a lasagna as the main) on Christmas day. At first I missed the "traditional", but I've come to appreciate the variety.

Homemade Italian food is amazing.

I'm all about frying as many birds as possible, but we have shifted from turkey at Christmas, to a prime rib.
Small family so it works pretty well.
