I want to go but haven’t been in at least a couple of years. I really just want some good fish and have to be in the area later this week. Was going to Brigstens but they booked out and I went to Peche a few weeks ago.

Or as usual the thread is open for suggestions.

I went in the Spring. Lobster dumplings were delicious. I tasted the bbq shrimp which was excellent. I had the soft shell crawfish since they were in season. One person had the drum with chicken cracklin crust. It was dry and flavorless and the crust was nothing like expected. It wasn't even really crisp. There was a fish with brown butter sauce which was quite good. The scalibut was okay. It was a nice piece of fish, but perhaps we were expecting more flavor to it. It was a mixed bag for us that night. It was packed.

Took a group last week. It was a good experience. Really enjoyed the cold apps, ceviches, tartare, crudo. My swordfish entre was a tad heavy for my taste but good.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to GW Fins, but two weekends ago, Mrs. Allen and I enjoyed our meal at Mulate’s. The reality of it is, Oceana Grill was our first choice, but it was booked up.

I went about 6 months ago and found it to be sort of tired and dated. Food was ok but nothing special. I won’t be going back anytime soon. Too much hassle to go to a FQ establishment for that experience.

It's not currently on my repeat list, either.

Went about a month ago and hadn't been in years. Lobster something or so for an app and I had the swordfish and it was excellent. Can't remember what the wife had, but she really enjoyed it. Was very good experience all around.

I go every couple of months. I always enjoy it. When I visit NOLA, I try to make it to either Peche or GW FIns to get the good seafood fix I miss in Houston.

Just had dinner there on Saturday night. Everything was stellar as usual. I had the Black Drum with the chicken cracklins and it was delicious. I had a taste of the seared scallops with the mushroom risotto and this was tasty as well.

The lobster dumplings was a really nice app, I wish that I had gotten this instead of my salad which was interesting.

The stand out dessert was this peanut butter pie.

Fins is a really really good restaurant that doesn't get the acclaim it deserves. The only thing bad about our night was getting out of the parking garage with the parade going on.

I had the opposite feeling about this, mine was delicious.

I have had this before and thought it was meh. Halibut is a fish that really doesn't need much done to it preparation wise and stands well on it's own. They ruin perfectly good scallops slicing them thin for the fish coating and it overcooks them. Overall, this is a poorly conceived dish and they ruin two perfectly delicious proteins all in the effort of creating a cutely named dish.

Must have been an off night when the person in our party had it. Did yours have a crisp crust? I tasted it and it was very bland and soggy.

Yes, the chicken crust was browned nicely, crisp and had a good level of seasoning. I have had this dish before and really liked it both times.

It's interesting you mentioned flavorless. Just last week I was listening to Chef Duke on Tom Fitz' show and he mentioned that restaurants in the French Quarter tend to not spice their dishes too much. Apparently, the tourists complain about overly spicy dishes.

IDK how much truth there is to what he said, but he said it.

Thanks for the feedback. I learned to get the lobster app, skip the drum with chicken and that Pawl’s mom took him out to eat.

Been there twice in the last couple of months. In my top 3 favorite restaurants in town. I highly recommend it.

Last time was for Coolinary in August.

Been 3 or 4 other times this year just to get the BBQ shrimp. Its that good. If anyone has had better, I'd like to hear the recommendations.

The "wings" appetizer was recommended to me, so a friend and I sat at the bar earlier this year to partake in some apps (my fourth visit). Thinking they were going to be chicken wings, I was pleasantly surprised that they were crispy fish fins along with the body meat that clings onto them. My friend ate the meat off of hers but she left her fins for me which I love. We also checked out a pork belly/compressed watermelon app and tuna tartare. Since we were at the bar, we were elbow to elbow with other diners so I got to peek at some of their food and the dishes looked incredible.

I had a delicious Cioppino at Irene's recently. Outside of New York and San Fran, a good Cioppino is hard to find.

I find it to be one of the best and most consistent restaurants in the city. However the dishes are not overly complex or innovative as the menu hasn’t changed much in 15+ years.

I’m ok with that. I just like good fish that’s not tortured.
