Anyone attend Top Taco this year?

My fourth year going and probably my last. Lines to get in were way too long. We bought the first taste tickets.and couldn’t even get in until 6:30. VIP line was absurd.
Vendors ran out of food and drinks at 8:00. GA opening was 7:00. That can’t happen. The event is too expensive for 75% of the vendors to be out 1/3 of the way through the event. The ones that had food and drinks left had lines 50-60 deep.
There were a lot less vendors this year as well. Overall very disappointing.

Didn't go but what a mess.
Sounds like they sold too many tickets for # of vendors they had.

There was at least 15 or so vendors that didn’t come back. Talked to an owner of a usual place that wasn’t attending about a week ago. He said they would never do it again because the payoff wasn’t enough and the voting was biased/rigged. This was coming from a guy that had won in the past.
The first couple years I went, it was awesome. Last night I was leaving at 8:30. Nobody had anything left. They’ve got to do better to educate the vendors and or supplement them somehow because I’m sure it’s a huge cost.
Best taco I had last night was Gonzo’s Smokehouse.

He posted that they won first place. What exactly were the ingredients for his taco?

a festival in Metairie that isn't a parish fair is not something ever on my radar. Was invited but glad i did not go

I went. 3rd year in a row. Got in right at 6:00 w/ Early Entry. Went stright to Gonzo's then popped around. I felt like there were less vendors and less quality tacos and less quality drinks. It will probably be my last year as well. 2 friends who went for the 1st time were highly disappointed.
Some of the tacos were terrible that I just threw them away. (PeeWee's comes to mind)
Gonzo's was the best followed by the one that had a slice of brisket on the taco and also had drinks. Filmore maybe?
Gonzo's was a grilled tortilla w/ melted cheese, sliced pork cheeks, pickled red onions, and some other stuff on it.

Same folks that do (did?) Nola on Tap. That was a great festival. Wonder if it's done?

Nola on Tap is essentially done from what I've heard from a home brewer that has participated each year

Every year I realize Top Taco is happening the week it's hosted. I've still never been but have been meaning to check it out. Sorry to hear this.

Hard disagree. Went once and it was awful. Maybe just a bad day but it was just awful.

It’s not awful. Buyt it’s not otherworldly either. It’s fine.

The owner is SOLELY concerned with making as much money to line his pockets as possible because he’s had too many failed restaurants and has tremendous debt. He doesn’t give a shite about the quality of the event.
Also responsible for the shite show cinco event in fat city.

So you would have gone when it was in New Orleans?

I got free tickets to NOWFE last year and had never been. Vendors were out of food within an hour

That's shocking. I've been to the NOLA location 10+ times and the BR location 3-4 times and have never had a bad experience
spicy marg, spicy queso w/ chorizo, beef taco, fish taco, and quesadillas have all been excellent
