I’ve used hickory, post-oak, and pecan for the last 10 years and would like to start trying mesquite.

For mesquite fans, what do you use it for?

There’s an old school steakhouse in Dallas that uses only mesquite. Steaks were fantastic but you leave smelling like ash

Can’t remember the name

No. I find mesquite bitter.

Mix it with other types of wood. I never use only 1 at a time.

When I was buying bags from academy years ago I found it to be the best, and my wife preferred it. I'm all local firewood by the rick now though, and it doesn't grow around here that I know of.

I grew up on it so I'm a huge fan, but it can get bitter if overused or if it's not well seasoned.

Love it. I’ve really only used it for beef. Usually I smoke with apple wood.

Love mesquite on chicken. Hickory is my go to for everything else.

Prefer it for high heat, hot and fast grilling over smoking.

Although it works well on whole turkey and chicken for smoking, you just have to be careful with the amount of smoke.

Mesquite is great with anything cooked hot and fast like steak, chicken and pork steaks.

I watched a video where the guy from Mad scientist bbq and Chuds smoked a brisket with nothing but mesquite.

They said it tasted like an ashtray.
