I’ve worked with autistic kids and Tom absolutely displays tendencies. E.g. if he hears something once from someone he considers to be an authority no amount of evidence will ever get him to change his mind.
He occasionally mentions that he has the Food Lab book but hasn’t tried any of the recipes and you can tell that he thinks it is a load of garbage because it’s not how the line cooks at Antoine’s did it in 1978. Today he mentioned with great zeal that a steak should be flipped ONLY once.
Another example of his autism is his apparent ignorance of what he did to get on Chef Paul’s bad side.

Yeah Paul blacklisted him 20+ years ago. Tom relates his facile understanding of the situation in Hungry Town

You seem very salty about Tom

Did he offend you personally?

I listened to one show yesterday. Made it 5 minutes.

You know how he says there's no stupid question? After taking my question and hanging up, THEN he said it was a stupid question. I had asked where to get a good banana split because I had never had one. The kicker is, I was just calling in to save his arse because nobody else was calling in.
He also dissed the jambalaya calculator without ever looking at it, insinuating it was malware. He's an arse.

At least you tried to make his show better. But yeah, that’s no way to treat a caller.
So he gave you no options about where to find a banana split?

Wouldn't it be a "blackened" list?

Without reading his book, what started the spat between him and Chef Paul?

Did you ever read any incarnation of his multiple message boards? He was an arse to people. He wanted the boards to be busy, but he was snarky, defensive, rude and downright ugly to people. Eventually, he made so many people angry that he spent as much time if not more, deleting posts and banning people than he did posting substantively about food. He ran off new people if he didn't like the question or thought it was stupid. He was so bad that Mr. Lake's Non Pompous Food Forum was born by a woman who was obsessed with tearing him down. He was just as obsessed with her. Someone else created a website dedicated to making fun of TF. It was juvenile, but had followers. He ruined the Nola.com forum when they let him on there. Someone else started another New Orleans food forum called Nola Eats, I believe, but it fizzled out as Nola.com did. He really single handedly ruined New Orleans messageboards about food. Like I said, the man has been a jerk.

I wasn’t aware of the message boards. This must have been pre Katrina, no?

Oh my, Paul. I thought you knew more about TF. The boards were pre and post K.
His very last incarnation was one he made pretty private due to all the enemies he'd made on his other boards. Still, his detractors infiltrated and he didn't get enough traffic from decent posters because he'd run most of them off. He still spent time having to delete posts and posters all the time, so he gave up, but it was all his own fault.
Ironically, Lake's forum still survives, though not that busy. TF's did not survive.

You nailed it. I was part of some of those boards and that's when he started losing me as a fan.
Do you remember when he got into the pissing match with the restaurant owners wife? He claimed to have eaten there and I think wasn't real thrilled with the place and she called him out saying he had never been. They went back and forth and she wanted him to show a receipt as proof.
I just think the dumbest thing of all his silly flaws was him being a snob and looking down on Rummel even though they were the ones that took him in and let him graduate after Jesuit dismissed him.
