We’ve always liked Elvira’s for dinner and Hillbilly’s for breakfast, both in Wear’s Valley.

What in particular are you looking for?

For breweries, head to Knoxville or across the park to Sylva & Bryson City.

Townsend is a great spot to look for more relaxed food/drink plus there are several wineries and other worthy stops on 321 through Wears Valley.

That's almost all the way into Knoxville... but some South Knox brewery hopping (Printshop, Alliance, and Hi-Wire are all south of the river) followed by dinner at Ye Olde Steakhouse could be an excellent getaway from the Pigeon Forge tourists.

Or if you want to make a full day of it, there's a newer place called Simpl. on Sevier next to Alliance that does great brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Also open for lunch Th-F, but most breweries around here don't open until later on Thursdays.

The Local Goat in Pigeon Forge is amazing. Make sure you make reservations if you plan on going.

It was quite busy when we went. It was ok but nothing I’d wait an hour for.

It’s not off the beaten path but we enjoyed the Cherokee grill in Gatlinburg.

If you're feeling homesick and want some really good Louisiana cuisine while dining amongst a lot of LSU and Saints decor, PawPaws Catfish Kitchen in Wears Valley is very good.

A couple from South Louisiana started it and it's legitimately great Louisiana food.

Maybe not off the beaten path but it didnt seem touristy despite being on the main drive.

Puckers is a really solid bar. Granted I play darts, and they have a few soft tip boards, but they have pool tables, cold beer

Also, I'd recommend Gatlinburg Brewing Company (good beer and pizza) over Yee-Haw Brewing in Pigeon Forge or Smoky Mountain Brewery which las locations in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

If you make it to Townsend, check out Peaceful Side Social... lots of great local beers on tap. They are starting their own brewing operation, but don't think they have anything out yet.

Salty Bear in Gaitlinburg, especially during SEC season...

Very good raw oysters considering the location.

ETA: Last visit in '19 so maybe not too accurate today

After rafting one afternoon, we stopped at some roadside dive on the way back to Gatlinberg that also featured a flea market type of store in the other trailer on the property. I don’t remember anything about the food and the most exciting part was that we all had to go inside because a bear came down from the mountain and was walking around the parking lot. The kids had a ball watching. We saw a ton of bears that week. That’s all I got.

Feaster’s on Teaster is good as is Blue Moose Burgers and Wings. I understand that Paw Paw’s Catfish Kitchen in Wears Valley is excellent as someone else mentioned. My sister and husband have eaten there and went on and on about how good it is. We also have been to a quaint Mexican restaurant in Sevierville named El Paso…no relation to the chain in Louisiana.

Heck I could eat Pancake Pantry on the Gatlinburg strip for every meal and be totally satisfied. Their breakfast offerings, soups, and sandwiches are all top-notch.
