I’m 39 and trying it for the first time. I’ve heard the health benefits of it, but obviously drinking too much of it is not good. My grandfather drank it and said it was commonplace for people of his generation. So far, it’s different, good, but sour. I’ve seen where people will add salt and pepper for taste. What do you all think?

My grandfather used to drink it when I was younger. I hated the smell of it.

I cook with it. Makes amazing mashed potatoes.

I don’t know if I’m hard enough to drink it though.

I drink a quart most mornings. The full fat edition. I don’t care for the low fat version.

I always liked the smell of it but never tried drinking it. My mama used to make fritters and pour buttermilk over them before eating them.

I never cared for it. My grandfather loved a piece of cornbread in a glass of buttermilk after dinner. Ate it with a spoon like dessert.

So far the responses have been great and what I expected; great as an added fixture to what is great food. The smell is one thing for sure. The taste isn’t so bad once getting used to it. It’s also a great probiotic. I’ve also discovered it’s amazing on the bowels. It’s a known beverage in the Mediterranean region, Middle-East, Indian Subcontinent but with added ingredients.

Other than making buttermilk pancakes, buttermilk drip biscuits, or buttermilk waffles. We don’t use buttermilk around the house

That being said since we are always marking the above so we always have it in the house.

I left the house early yesterday to get more when I noticed we were out. Made waffles for the family and froze what we didn’t eat so they have quick breakfasts this week

And always enlists the “look” when I suggest to my wife that she just put some buttermilk in her coffee when we are out of regular milk……

That or just drink it black like me….that gets a second “look” and sometimes me being called a choice word….

One of my grandfathers drank buttermilk regularly. I only use it as an ingredient. Adds a nice tang to baked mac n cheese.

I drink it pretty regularly. Ice cold and fresh. Also only “Bulgarian-style”.

My grandparents were children of the Depression and from east Alabama.

Every night after dinner, they’d eat leftover cornbread mixed with buttermilk, salt, pepper, and green onions out of a coffee mug with a spoon.
