Was a nice little show, but I can't see LA getting any sort of federal funding after this airs.

I thought this episode was ok. Nothing compared to the Eunice episode though.

Yea that one overall was definitely better. The last 20 minutes of this one were fantastic though.

Enjoyed the episode!

Will miss your down to earth storytelling.

Kind of eerie the "ashes to ashes" comments.

RIP Anthony Bourdain!

He’s pretty morbid in most of his episodes if you rewatch. Lots of references to death and such

I've always thought I wanted to go to Mamou to witness Mardi Gras, but that episode left me questioning the idea.

Me too.

I'm sure it looks like more fun if you're inside an alcohol-sodden body at 9 am.

I went once when I was 17, and the result was the worst headache I’ve ever had in my life (and I’ve had many). Got there Friday night, started drinking, and it never stopped - all the way through the parade Sunday morning, with nothing to eat all weekend except for boudin from the superette. The locals I was with appeared to be unfazed. When I finally got back to BR I think I slept for 19 hours straight.

Unless you go with someone that’s part of it there’s really not much to see

Yep, and the episode that aired before it ended with him saying something like "It would be the last time I would see my friend". It was sort of telling, in hindsight. Not to mention in this one after he got his ashes and looked at the camera and said "I got right with God."

I didn't find this episode to be particularly good or interesting. Wish it focused more on food, but I guess this show is a mix of travel and food with more emphasis on the cultural aspect.

And I found it odd that they dumped crawfish into what looked like unseasoned water and then in the next clip the crawfish were in seasoned water. Can anyone explain what I saw here?

I had the same reaction. Then you see the almighty ice chest dumping them on the table...and I think it's well known that hawk's sprinkles. I was a little surprised / disappointed that they had their event catered. I would have rather seen someone from the family doing it, but they barely touched on the crawfish boil, so not a big deal.

They must have added seasoning after they put the crawfish in the water. I know some people here do add some liquid boil to the soak, but I don't think Hawk's soaks their crawfish.

I enjoyed the episode overall. I've never done the Mamou mardi gras and always wanted to. Now I have an idea of what it's like.

I already knew that. I had no idea about the weird costumes and masks and couldn't really picture the "runs" for the chickens.

The fact moderators let this shite stand makes them complicit in what's fricked up in this country these days. The longer we let loony tune motherfrickers from all over the web cloud-source conspiracy theories and spread them unabated, the entire national dialogue will remain in the dirt.

Hawks is the best crawfish. Not sure if she seasoned the water or not

I didn't. I kind of knew about the spectacle of it, but I guess I had romanticized it quite a bit.

Agreed. I don't care how they season/sprinkle/soak it; all I know is it's the best I've ever had.
