Met him at R Bar in New Orleans several years ago. He was anything but a grumpy, old man. He initiated the conversation with a friend and me, and bought a few rounds.

He showed up to mamou Mardi Gras
Probably not his first run at choking the chicken.

The Turkey and the Wolf guys from New Orleans were there too.

He's a hardened New Yorker who worked a kitchen line for most of his career and defeated a bad drug addiction. I imagine people used to southern hospitality would find him off putting between takes.

Lot of hate for Bourdain on here now.

They are just jealous because Bourdain has the greatest job in the world.

From his Instagram Account. Looks like he got into the spirit in Mamou. And the menu is from Suire's Grocery in Kaplan. I saw an article that says he went to Laura's II in Lafayette. Can't know him for authenticity. Much Respect.

Bourdain haters are pathetic. Guy is a major talent and has pretty much avoided "selling out" for a long career that has just seen his reputation and fame grow. Even when he does "sell out," he usually makes fun of himself in the episode and is extremely self-deprecating (the best one that comes to mind is when they faked the spearfishing episode, so he got blackout drunk over having stooped so low and made fun of himself and the producers for the lame fakery).
The best part about him is that he's actually a damned fine essayist, which comes across in his own writing and in the writing for the show (though presumably he has writers now that he's as big as he is).

Great that he did Mardi Gras in Mamou.. Looks like he had fun slipping in with the home team. And it's good to see he really enjoys the Cajun food and culture.

I was trying not to be too intrusive. I zoomed, so I am not that close to him.

Guy is a major talent

Anthony Bourdain is the man. His political beliefs do suck
