If you like Kaniche, search for other Barbados rums. I really push newbies to the Doorly 12 year, which is from Barbados. Smooth profile and outrageously affordable.
Diplomatico is Venezuelan trash IMO.

Premium bourbon whiskey has become a dumb, stuffy, no-fun market. The ultra premium stuff can only be had on the secondary market for the equivalent of a mortgage payment
For the most part agree the way many people approach it these days.
You need to ditch the tradition "unicorn" bottles and focus on store/club picks. Very obtainable at retail, outstanding, unique, and a lot of fun.

Absolutely this
And on a hot summer day, I like to mix spiced rum (Sailor Jerry/Bayou/Cpt Morgan) with ginger ale. It's like cream soda on steroids. Or, a decent white rum to make mojitos.

$23.99 at Total Wine. This thread inspired me and I bought it. Only to see the Foursquare bottling at checkout. Better be good to have that name.

Spot on, OP. I just picked up my first bottle of Foursquare a few weeks ago, excited to crack into it on a humid night with a good cigar. In addition to the good bottles that have been recommended here, you can also order Cuban rum online. Santiago 12 yr is a particular favorite, Havana Club Maestros is also very good.

Eta: Their shipping is kind of ridiculous. I believe there are more sites out there if you do some digging that might have cheaper shipping options. Regardless, you won't be disappointed in the Santiago for $110 total.

Just ordered Flor de Cana 25 and Barbancourt 15 for pickup tomorrow.
$200 bucks. Meanwhile, some insurance guy is cucking out his wife for a chance to buy a raffle ticket for a bottle of Lot B.

Quit telling the bourbon nerds about this

I started getting into whisky back around 2012 and I got in with a store here in town and was able to get some good stuff, but I quit buying the first of the year. Besides I probably have more than I can drink in the next 10 years. I still check The Whisky Exchange in London for their private cask of Scotch. The Rolling Fork Rums are good private casks, Seelbachs has those from time to time. Whisky was fun but now, that every SOB thinks he has to have anything BT in bourbon and Springbank in Scotch, it sucks when I remember being the only person in my group of friends that even heard of Springbank. I am sure some YouTube neck beard in a Fedora will post about Jamaican Pot Still Rum and frick that up soon enough. They are already onto Foursquare.

I hope not. I almost regret making this thread. On a bright note, multiple industry guys have told me the new trend appears to be tequila, not rum. Maybe we can steer Gen Z to Mexican agave instead of my beloved Caribbean sugarcane.

I went by Hokus Friday and don't recall seeing any of these recommendations. I'll have to take a pic and post as I am totally unfamiliar with rum brands.
