i stopped once and had their brisket. it was terrible. smoke taste was sour, had no bark. chewy. Potato salad was bad too, didn't care for it at all.

I sense the owners (from Dallas) were clueless about the local culture and lacked the culinary wherewithal to pull it off. Just a hunch. NOLA.com hints it may have been indirectly related to JB's indiscretions and tarnished reputation.

The mention about patrons pining for the good 'ol days with Chef Chris are believable. Met him a few times. What a character. Haven't been there in a while. Was Joyce still there?

Older. Essentially the matriarch of the wait staff. I’d have to guess she retired a while back. She was a pistol... but she knew her trade very well.

Article states that they are selling the property. Not so sure business was hurt by Besh's antics, since new owners claim the regulars wanted the things they had come to love from the founder's reign. Had the new owners changed the menu?!?

That's really a shame. I could eat the pate they used to have by the gallon.

I hope someone with talent buys the property. In its heyday, it was a wonderful place. Times change, tastes evolve, the Northshore market has evolved: surely it would be a success again with competent management, marketing, and skill in the kitchen.

Yep. Besh should buy it back, as penance for wrongs, and reopen it in the spirit of his former mentor. He can feed cash to it as needed from his other establishments.

We usually (used to) go once every couple of years, but I regret the infrequent trips now. We've been with the new owners and thought it was great.

I wanted to go there since Great Chefs showcased it in the mid 80’s, when I didn’t have a pot to piss in. Hate I never made it.

I wish I had a dollar for every restaurant that has opened and closed over the years of my lifetime here in the N.O. area.

The competition is fierce and they are all chasing that same discretionary spending dollar their customers have.

The ones I miss the most are the long standing ones that plied their trade for years/decades, only to not have anyone willing to take over once the original owners got too old to continue.

My understanding is that the building itself was a moneypit.

I heard the same thing. Talked to a guy who did some electrical work there a couple of years ago. He said the same thing about the overall shape of the property. They did feed him and his helper, so that was a plus.

the wife and i ate there right before Besh sold it and it was great as always. we were on the northshore a few weeks ago and wondered what was going on with the new owners. i guess this is the answer.

that pate would be on the menu of my last meal

Seriously. My first time ever having it was there. Spoiled by that experience!
