They do have a dumbwaiter, though! It was pointed out on an early visit. Maybe they don't know how to work it?

The service was pretty rough when we went the other day. The hosts were just standing there not interacting with anyone, so I walked up to ask if we could be sat and the host snapped at me that there was a line. Oh you mean that group standing ten feet away that you're not even looking at?

Our server had no idea what the beers were and told me to just walk over and look at the taps. And then the few things we did order didn't come out as described (charcuterie board was missing fruit preserves and mustard and instead came with a bucketload of pickled okra and a few pieces of salami and some weird fruity cheeses. And you could choose to get vegetables and/or pita with your hummus. We chose both, envisioning that it would be raw vegetables you could dip in the hummus. Nope, just shredded carrot scattered on top.

Those things could be chalked up to working out kinks on the menu, though, so my real criticism would be that it just seems to be a bunch of the same thing, served on different types of bread. Someone in my group described it as "if Applebee's had bowling." I hope they shape it up and get that dumbwaiter working soon.

But the bowling was great! Really fun!

Yeah, I heard they were going to Pink Elephant but was hoping they'd be at White Star.
My understanding is that the building itself was a moneypit.
Love the food and atmosphere at Kalurah, but everyone I know who's been has had the same rude server. It just sounds like he's reciting from a script and wants to get you out of there as fast as possible. My mom told him about her lethal allergy to tomatoes while trying to confirm that one dish didn't have any. He just rolled his eyes and walked off. On another visit, he refused to tell me what the dessert specials were while my husband was in the bathroom because he didn't want to repeat himself. I said I'd be picking out the dessert anyhow but he was emphatic. There ended up only being three choices. Big effort.

I love everything else about the place. I'm? not the type to take to Yelp but I hope that dude is gone soon.
I balked at the price too but on second thought, they're probably trying to keep it from becoming a madhouse, which I can't blame them for.
Part of it too, I think, was falling down on the crucial element of supporting its chefs and promoting the chef to the community. Instead they kept quietly firing their chefs. Then they cared more about shilling their burger night and Michelob than any kind of farm-to-table element or chef creativity.
I thought the food was delicious and liked the atmosphere at Palermo, but the service was pretty eh. The girl threw my plate down and walked off while I cleaned it up. Just bizarre.
I believe it's open officially today. They did a couple of preview dinners on Thursday and Friday, and it looks good.

I haven't spent a lot of time up there, but it seems like this site is chock full of information. LINK

Omi's an experience, if you haven't tried it!
Calla's really good and open for lunch today! I also recommend Darrell's and Botsky's. It kills me I haven't been to Tasterite yet, but I hear good things. Cousin's is delicious too.
