IDK, my snorkel gear is in my MIL’s car who thought Walmart was a good idea this morning. I don’t see many people in the gulf, but this lake water to my right looks warm enough.

My wife spends a small fortune on cakes at Modica every time we are down there.

Have you hit any of the restaurants recommended yet?

I do. I am a former 5.0 tennis player. I am playing pickleball, now, because my neighborhood has about a 10:1 ratio of PB to tennis players, and pickleball is easier on the joints and more social. I'm still a newbie to the game, but am picking it up fast, due to my tennis background.

On this trip, no. Our favorites are Old Florida, Cafe Tango, B&As, Basmati’s, Pescados, Stinky’s, Great Southern….but on this trip we rented a 3 story house on a lake, so steaks tonight, steamed seafood tomorrow night (Buddy’s), then probably Old Florida Fish House on Saturday night. Been craving the Hamachi Kama there since our last trip.

Can you put nasty spin on the ball, or is it a pretty flat game?

I really enjoyed Citizen in Alys Beach
George's was good but not worth the wait unless weather is good enough to walk around with drinks to go
Pizza by Sea okay
Amici was very good but have to get in the car for that
Paradis was good

This was in June of last year and the masses of humanity waiting to get into all of these restaurants with no reservations was very off-putting

I don't get the love for Bud and Alley's. We usually stop there for breakfast on our way home just for the view. I have never been impressed with the breakfast. Is lunch and dinner better?

Yes and know. Basically you are playing with a heavier version of a wiffleball. It doesn't curve as much as a wiffleball, but spin and the wind do affect it. The paddle has a smooth surface, so it doesn't grip the ball like a tennis racquet grips a tennis ball, but you can definitely get some spin on it. The plastic ball doesn't travel as fast as a tennis ball does, so it is more a game of strategy than tennis is.

It’s been there since the 1980’s. We used to go there and watch live bands when Seaside was nothing but a post office and Bud and Alleys. That said, the food is nothing special and Seaside is too touristy now. But to lump all of 30A into one category is goofy. I like my white sand beaches with a higher class of redneck than you’ll find in PCB or Gulf Shores.

Not really

I don't think I know a single 30A owner/long time visitor who likes it

Bay St Louis has better restaurants than SRB (centralized). We’re at Old Florida right now and they’re out of the Hamachi Kama. Just got some nigiri.

I’m not a big enough fan of the beach to ever own here. It’s nice enough, but the vibe isn’t as cool as home. I’m sure at some point SRB had vibrant soul.

Grayton ole days with Johnny Earles - Criolla's

Criolla's by Johnny Earles...culinary excellence was beyond what exists now on 30A west to east. Presentation of plates served were works of art, flavors and textures were complex, warming, delightful, difficult to describe.

Missing Johnny and Debbie.

Loved Criolla’s!

At least three restaurants I know of followed in that location & then closed:
Grayton Bar & Grill (also Earles’)
Craft Bar
Grayton Beer Brewpub

Beach Club Brewpub just opened there, so it may be new ownership as there’s another location in Destin-?

Grayton Beer’s Taproom is still open on Serenoa Road with a limited menu via food truck. They still host Trivia Nights, which are fun. .

Blue Mabel

Don't understand the downvotes. Who would down vote Blue Mabel? Happy hour menu from 2-5 every afternoon is the best!

Elote Corn Dip $5 (omg)
House-Smoked Pork Nachos $10 (dis too)
Dixie Lager Pint Draft $3

'happy hour' from Miramar to 30A west is afternoon time when most people are on the beach and restaurants are looking for patrons - plenty of discounted good eats and drinks before crowds come in later!

Blue Mabel Happy Hour weblink

Other good eats happy hours: Auston's on 98, Grand Boulevard-Tommy Bahama, Cantina Laredo.

It's like ping pong with a wiffle ball on a badminton court. Much less force than tennis. Different.
