Had a couple of friends in town this past weekend and tried to go but their was a line out to the sidewalk. Sorry, but I don't wait in a line that long for anything. Ended up at BBB where Lakeview Harbor used to be.

How bad was BBB? Went once and it was bad.

It was actually really good!Delicious meat on the burger I got which was The South or something like that and the onion rings were awesome thin slices almost more like straw.
I'd go back!

I don’t get the love for the place, outside of maybe nostalgia

100s of other options and locals still file in line to get a poboy from Parkway

Maybe it’s you

Neither do informed locals. You walk up to bar, sit down, and order while all the idiots wait outside. Parkway is great. Surf n turf = Great. Shrimp poboy = GREAT. A menu sleeper is their Reuben. Get it on french, Great corned beef. The gumbo is also very good. Is it my favorite RB in the city? No, but still a very good debris style poboy. They have salt/pepper and hot sauce for you “bland folks”

You have to realize that not only do you, myself and two or three other people think about the bar to order something right? The bar was and usually is packed with locals who think the same way.

One absolute certainty on TD is that if someone posts about how much they enjoyed any old restaurant that has been successful for decades, someone will post that aforesaid restaurant is terrible, overrated and they had the worst meal of their life there.

White knighting is also very common on TD. Some people do go on bad days and get bad meals at these places. First time I went to Parkway, I got a subpar shrimp and was really disappointed. Tried it a second time and it was better. It’s a busy place, easy to make a mistake. People also build up restaurants for others and they expect something amazing and get something decent. That is really a let down too and will get exaggerated reviews.

I’ll pass on SS. I’d much prefer Bevi down the block.

Add some salt and it tastes just fine. The shrimp poboy is fantastic.

I live on Bayou St. John and prob go to parkway ab 2x a month. Even when the bar is full I place my order and before it is ready a seat always opens up. Just saying. I understand not waiting, especially for a poboy, but it’s never been a problem.

I know this is subjective, but who has the best? Since I'm allergic to seafood unfortunately, roast beef is my go to. I'd like to try the best next time I'm down there.

Well, "Best" is subjective but, Sammy's (2 locations), Short Stop and R&O all have great RB sammiches. R&O is completely different but all are very good.

Edited to add Radastas. Never had the RB at Radastas but everything I have had has been excellent. Their Shrimp Parm poboy is to die for.

Short STOP RB >>>>>>> Parkway RB.

FACT.

(and I'm no fan of Short Stop, in fact the RB is only thing I will get there)

I lived a few blocks away for a year and ate at parkway pretty much once a week. The bar was too busy to order food at maybe 2-3 times in that time frame

Where is the best place for a poboy in the French Quarter? I think Johnny's is the only place I've gotten a poboy in the Quarter
