Facebook confirms you are who I thought you might be. I've been wondering about John's camp, too. I remember last time it flooded the camp got rocked pretty hard and he had to reinforce it with those huge I-beams. It's crazy to think of the river coming up that high. That building sits a good ways up. Keep me posted if you find anything out -AE

NOAA has the 20th for Vicksburg - you're hearing differently?

This is what gets confusing. I actually heard that it takes into account 100% of the BC and 50% of Morganza.

Was just out by gov. Nick wharf, my measurements indicate 5 more ft. Should bring it below the levee top by ~1 ft.

Gov Nicholls St Wharf in N.O., I assume? The Carrollton Gage was at 15.57' at 1300 today, per USACE RiverGages.com

Am I understanding your post correctly to mean that there is currently ~6' of freeboard at the Gov. Nicholls Wharf?

You're correct. Supposedly, Morganza drops it 1-2'...

The big map showing estimated inundation does that.

Not the tables of crests.

I could be wrong through.

Yes, I stood down by the water and the top was above eye level.

Link? I want to read it. It's not that I doubt you, but there seems to be too much misinformation floating around.

Does an inch of rain equal an inch higher in the Mississippi? I don't think it does necessarily.

I would imagine an inch of rain in St. Louis means far more than an inch higher water level in the Mississippi. If it rains 1 inch on an area that the Mississippi drains, lets say an area that is 100 square miles, and assuming it all drains into various creeks and rivers, then to the Mississippi, that is an additional 232,320,000 cubic feet of water!

Granted, a good portion of that rain will be absorbed by the ground and vegetation, but even if half of it makes it to the Mississippi, that is a huge amount of water.

And that's the other part that sucks. The ground is so saturated, that it probably doesn't suck up near as much water as it normally would.

I think I asked you somewhere in this thread, but I'm not sure I saw if you responded.

What was your field again? Are you going to be doing anything with all of this?

Does any of that make sense?

This was found about the achafalaya river in Simmsport. Is that saying they are predicting the crest at 50ft??? That is almost 9ft higher that 08. If so, towns like Brouilette and Bordelonville/Hamburg will need rooftop rescues...

I'm not really involved with the river situation. I find the discussion interesting partly because I know very little of how the river functions at various flood stages and landscape and what areas have the potential for flooding.

Others in my line of work, yes, just not me.

But when it gets into other waterways and gets to the fish/wildlife?
