Been busy, can someone please catch me on any new info since Thursday.
Bonnet Carre to open all 350 bays starting 0800 Monday. Morganza to partially open (20-50%) midweek, maybe Wed or Thur.
Search LSUDad's posts from late last night (around pg 95 or so, if you just want to scroll through). He linked to a USACE flood projection map for LA. It's pretty informative, if not terrifying.
That's the broad strokes. Plough through 99 pages to get some of the facts and all of the rumors!

That 3200 kcfs number at Arkansas City on 4/16 is very very bad. That basically means we're over the design capacity. The project flood calls for 2800 cfs in that spot, and the forecast calls for 400 past it. This doesn't take into consideration any rain thats forecast for next week...

It is the maximum flood that the USACE Mississippi River & Tributaries Project was designed to handle. The system is designed to handle 1,500,000 cps at Baton Rouge and 1,250,000 cfs at New Orleans. Excerpt and link below.
"The project flood is larger than the record flood of 1927. At Cairo, Illinois, the project flood is estimated at 2,360,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The project flood is 11 percent greater than the 1927 flood at the mouth of the Arkansas River and 29 percent greater at the latitude of Red River Landing, amounting to 3,030,000 cfs at the latter location about 60 miles below Natchez, Mississippi."

Thought that is it but wanted to make sure, now are these levels "the max numbers for BR and NO" taking into account the openings of BC, Morganza, and fuse plug all being activated? In other words are all three going to have to be used in order to keep levee toppings/breaches from happening?

These were taken this afternoon on the Port Allen side of the river, looking towards the old bridge. It looked higher sitting right there in the truck than the pictures show.

It doesn't matter what's open and what isn't. The max flow those places can handle is what it is and the flow at those places is what it is.
Now the projected flow is a different story.

So are the BR levees gonna get topped or what?

Yea, phrased it wrong, are the projected numbers with those 3 being activated or no? Sorry I know this question has probably been asked a ton but with these newest numbers I am starting to get a lil worried especially if these new numbers are with BC, Morganza being accounted for.

No I don't think so. I think the only thing taken into account is the projected rainfall over the next 24 hours.

Don't know, don't think so. But must are playing on the safe side.
