actually, yes. the corps has been pretty reactive vs. proactive over the last half century or so.

'is blowing the floodway a good idea'
has this news man been listening to anything he has been reporting.

Think about widening an impact area instead of focusing on one area. As far as I know correctly, they are blowing a second section below the first. Thus, water will still continue to rise in the river. It just alleviates pressure on the bend at Cairo some.

Wow. I hope no one is seeing this internationally. Look world, this is the American Heartland.

Keep standing there Kathy until you see the water. Holy shite I still can't believe Mary Ann asked her that question and gave her this directive.

its essentially making a storage reservoir, once it fills up, the river will flow as it did before
it will help some, but the crest is expected soon up there, won't crest down here for a week or so

river silt will make it even better, even though they lose a years cro
Depends, there can sometimes be large sand deposits which are bad for the farm land.

I wouldn't say reservoir. Mire like an area of slack water. There essentially taking 500k cfm off of the bend at Cairo.

BC is going to be opened for sure. Probally Morganza as well. Does anyone trust the levees after Katrina? The only reason my former house flooded was becaue of Corps negligence.

River silt is good but places where the levee has yielded in the past leaves sand. Pure sand is not good for farming. The sand can't retain moisture like silt or fertile loam soil.

They usually don't open BC until we hit 17ft at the Carrolton gauge. We will definitely see it open in a week or so.

Heard from someone on WWL 870 tonight that Baton Rouge flood stage was unofficially elevated from 47.5 feet to 49.5 feet with flood stage being at 35 feet. So that's 14.5 feet above flood stage. Morganza is going to be opened with those types of numbers.

Has anyone posted Led Zepplin?
If it keeps on raining the levee is going to break

Not necessarily. Some will be better for it, but there will be a good bit of land that will have too much silt and sand deposits and form sand blows in areas that won't make anything. There are places where the levees broke in '27 that are still below average pieces of land for this reason... There is actually a place not far from my family's farm that was flooded in 1973 that has some really bad sand blows on it that will burn up in a hurry... The land will still probably be farmable, but don't think that it's just going to be a one year deal and everything will be peaches and cream afterwards.
