I've read up to 4. No idea though. If we get 2 I'll be happy.

I know he won't accept it (or maybe he would, who knows) but I hope Jonathan Turley gets a look.

I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas resigns.

Hopefully Ginsberg, Kennedy and Breyer. I would cum.

No. Turley is a liberal scholar, we don't need more of his kind on the court

Thomas has indicated that he does not wish to serve into his old age. But he will only step down with a Republican in the WH.

Let's just look at the first term and not assume a second: He obviously will fill one seat, but I think there is a decent possibility he fills at least one more. Ginsburg will try to hold out for as long as she can now, as will Breyer, but I think there is a distinct chance that Kennedy's seat could come up.

Should Kennedy's seat come up, it could be huge for Republicans. Kennedy is generally considered a more conservative justice (along with Roberts, Thomas, and Alito), but he has at times differed from the conservatives (such as the Obergefell ruling on gay marriage), which is why he is considered a "swing vote". His seat being available would allow a replacement with a conservative who would likely not be a swing vote. That would give the conservatives a true 5-4 advantage (now no swing vote) in the Court (assuming Ginsburg and Breyer are still there).

It really just depends, should he get a second term, I could see 3 or maybe more. Looking at his first term alone, though, I think two seats is a realistic possibility.

Definitely the best part of the result of last night. If he sticks to the list he published I'll certainly be pleased.

What would cause Ginsberg or Kennedy to resign? Wouldn't one thing Ginsburg would try to hold out 4 years to avoid a conservative filling her seat?

2, I think Thomas retires. The rest try to survive the next 4 years.

I think Ginsberg's husband is terminal. She's not in great health herself.

That would mean 5 because his first order of business will be to withdraw the guy Obama nominated for Scalia's seat.

If he gets 5 with 4 of them being libs and he actually appoints conservatives who rule that way, the conservative movement will dominate for the next 40 years.

They are all 80 or older.

At that age, planning for next week is an exercise in optimism.

Everyone assumes these old arse men and women will retire or just fall over dead, but people live a long time these days, especially if they have access to top of the line medical care.

4 years isn't enough time to expect half the Supreme Court to die off. The Democrats might make all a serious run in 2020 if Trump doesn't live up to expectations

Scalia, Kennedy, and if he wins a second term, probably Ginsburg or Breyer.

Ginsburg and Breyer will try to hold out as long as possible, particularly Breyer, but one of them will either leave or die within 8 years, regardless of whether the Dems win in 2020.
