Yeah, this would prevent binge watching which I've determined is unhealthy for me. I am only two episodes in and plan on taking a while to watch all. Damn, it takes nearly two years to produce a new season so I want to take it slow.

Netflix doesn't give a shite about how many people are discussing their shows on message boards, they care about viewership, and its been huge for season 3. I'm sure Netflix has the data to back up that people binging shows is what keeps them subscribing. The quicker you finish Stranger Things, the quicker you can move on to finding a new series to binge and keep you coming back for more.
Besides, I'm pretty sure they already tried the weekly releases for a couple of shows, and it didn't work.

Yes, this will obviously always be #1. but it's an interesting argument that discussion can build more viewership. and while you argue that they binge and move on to a new show, a weekly or block release would retain people longer waiting to finish the season and maybe have multiple shows going at once.

Yes, and also because it’s a built in break in the show. But again, what is the actual benefit of releasing it as one 8 hour show? What would cause Netflix to change to that format?

I think Being able to tel a long story without the break would be interesting.

Yeah I’m not a big binger. I’ll sometimes watch two in one night but we’re only on episode 6 and watched first one on July 4th. I could easily wait until Sunday nights. Enjoy the build up a lot more.

Yeah, I don't have a lot of time for TV viewing so it's dicey avoiding spoilers when the show is released all at one. That said, wife and kids are out of town this weekend so I'll easily finish the series this weekend.

I actually agree.
I feel like if I do not watch a show within the first week it's out on Netflix then why bother? No one is discussing it anymore.
The only time it is nice is if you happen to be sick right when one releases and you have something fun to do while bed ridden.

The writing and everything assumes a binge format. They dont have to place too much emphasis on the beginning and end because they know the next episode is coming immediately.
I agree. And I really enjoy the binge format. I do wish, that they would maybe do half seasons. For instance, if stranger things is 8 episodes release four of them and one half of the year and 4 on the other half the still allows you to build suspense while keeping the show constantly rolling out. Right now waiting over year between seasons sucks

I like the OP bringing a good discussion topic, but this is the basic answer.
You either want to watch the next episode or not, thus will be subscribed to Netflix or not. The level of excitement between episodes or even seasons doesn't matter because it is so easy to unsubscribe and subscribe.
Netflix only cares about viewers being satisfied and staying subscribed, because any lost viewer could go to Hulu or another platform and get what they want.
Being satisfied means getting what you want, when you want it. That's the Netflix binge model.
