Thanksgiving travel ideas

Through a very weird aligning of events, I have no Thanksgiving plans for the first time in my life.
It'll be me, wife, and 7 year old daughter.
7-10 hours from Lafayette.
We can head any direction and are up for anything really.
It's really weird not having a holiday plan for once.
ETA: Thanks everyone. Mrs. Coach has narrowed the options to Destin or the hunting camp with her family

We were looking to do the same during the holidays and ended up deciding on a cabin near petit Jean Arkansas. 7 hours from Lafayette so it won’t be too bad with a 3 yr old.
I’m looking forward to enjoying some secluded atmosphere… fire pits, bourbon, and s’mores.

Not totally against it. It’s just another expense.

If I go there, I’ll go the extra 1.5hrs last ATX to the hunting camp with the in-laws.

San Antonio, lots of stuff to do and great place to visit and walk around when it’s not blazing hot like in the summer.

We just booked a Thanksgiving trip to the charred remains of Lake Tahoe.

We're in a mountain cabin just outside of Boone, NC and will be spending Thanksgiving at the Biltmore. First time for us to not be with extended family for Thanksgiving too -- but it was our decision.

Thanksgiving at the Biltmore
Ever been to or stayed there before?
I've been meaning to look in to it but never get around to it. A 3 or 4 night stay there seems like a good time but I've never really done the research on activities or pricing or anything.

Gaylord Texan Outside of Dallas. Your daughter will love it. It’s a Christmas wonderland. And you will love it as you won’t have to leave the resort for a few days.

quote:Yes, pre-COVID. There are several house tours ranging on depth and rooms covered. Seems like they regulated who could be in the house (i.e. all visitors were in a scheduled tour even if it was self-directed). They had a special exhibit of glass structures in the gardens both at the Biltmore Estate and at their hotels. They will have the Christmas decorations and an evening 'Candlelight Christmas' tour while we are there and the family is looking forward to that. They also have a Van Gogh Alive 'multi-sensory' experience we will be checking out.

There are many activities not at the house. Carriage/horse riding. Biking. Hiking (guided available). Bird watching walks.
Rafting/canoeing/kayaking. Fly fishing. Sporting clays. Farm visits. Falconry. Wine tastings/tours. Land Rover Experiences (obstacle courses). Spa services. They all cost, but are usually pretty good.

That may be a winner right there. My daughter and I are THOSE people. My wife just tolerates us, and asks that Christmas not go up in our house until Thanksgiving.

My family went to Gaylord 3 years ago. I really wasn't looking forward to it but was pleasantly surprised with how nice it is. There is a ton to do and plenty of discounted packages if you stay there. One small tip, do the snow sledding tubes on a weekday. They get crazy crowded on the weekend.

Then y’all should do it. I’m not a huge Christmas guy but my wife is. And we BOTH loved it. So many activities and we don’t have kids. I would only imagine taking a child there would be even more special. We went for thanksgiving last year due to Covid crap. They didn’t care there. No masks, no questions.
Be warned, it can get crowded. But just be smart how you travel. Grab lunch at 11am instead of 12:30pm. Zig when they zag.

We just stayed on property at Biltmore. I would stay at the hotel in the village on Biltmore. It is right next to the winery, several restaurants, shops etc… all top notch and run by Biltmore. The more expensive hotel is up the hill from the village on property and nicer but not as easy to access.

We’re going to mount magazine Arkansas for thanksgiving this year. Tent camping but have a reservation at the lodge in case the weather is bad.
