It’s been awhile since I had an eye pass over where I was. Definitely a pretty eery feeling. Maybe it was just me but the stronger winds were on the backside but almost no rain.

I didn't stick around for Katrina, but those were the highest winds I've ever been in, in St. Bernard.
It was wild.
Some have said thank goodness it moved as fast as it did. But if it moved slower, it would have fallen apart more before it got to us. So we would have had lower speed winds for a longer period of time.

It was definitely going ET as it got on land. Trough had opened it up but IIRC it made a sort of "sting jet" like you get with mid-Atlantic storms sometimes where the backside is dry but funneling strong winds to the surface.

Wonder if Laura will get a bump to 5 when they come out with that report.

Yeah, same spot during cristobal got about 8' earlier in the year. That little TS stalled near mouth of river and just pumped water into the bay.

Me neither, I guess I was still too busy dealing with Hurricane Laura and Delta's bullshite.

Hi neighbor, that was the worst winds that I have ever encountered as well. It did go by fast, odd being in the center of one.

Maybe. The NHC official max wind was set at 150. Mike Theiss and team measured 154mph at Holly Beach, which was the highest measurement obtained. Others in Lake Charles saw winds in the 130s, but from instruments well off the ground. NWS Lake Charles instruments didn't top 100mph before they failed.
It will take some deep analysis to find the winds to give it the bump.

Zeta did sort of sneak up on us here in Mobile. In NW Mobile County, Citronelle caught wind gusts around 100 MPH and was hurt pretty badly.

Same. We experienced the eye in Old Metairie; I watched from my front window as we entered the eyewall. Went outside with all the neighbors under that odd reddish evening sky during the eye, and I was watching the radar on my phone and stupidly telling everyone it was pretty much over with, as the radar showed no activity on the back side.
Of course the radar didn't show WIND, which as you said was worse than it was on the front side.
Zeta was pretty intense far inland. We went on a 'back roads' overnight trip a couple of weeks later on my birthday weekend, through southern Mississippi and Alabama, and all of that area up to Selma had visible damage - lots of downed trees, houses with damage, etc.

No, it’s a way for the NHC to pad stats to coincide with their “preseason storm count” agenda.
