Do I have to wrap the connections for my outdoor Christmas lights?

They’re hanging on the roof. Do they need electrical tape or just let it ride?

Wait until it rains, then touch the connection to see if you made the right choice.

I tape mine but I tend to leave them up until July.

I always wrap mine in duct tape to make sure water doesn't get in them. I'd rather be safe than have an entire series short out and then I have to replace that strand.

All of the crews that hang lights for money do, so it’s safe to say you should too.

I do electrical tape, but always feel like I'm just wasting tape.

Is there any brand of lights that will last longer than 1 or 2 years? I feel like every year I am replacing the majority of my outdoor lights

I predominately use the GE LED C9’s and they hold up nicely. You can change the individual bulbs and covers.

Search for a online seller of commercial grade. You want screw in c7 or c9.

If they aren't under the eve, yes then wrap them. It'll save you a tripped breaker.

They didn't have any of the longer rolls so I had to get a bunch of 12 ft ones. Gonna be a lot of wrapping but I guess I'll give it a go.

A quart ziplock bag wrapped around the plug connection, with the slide tab area pointed down has worked fine for me.

A lot faster. Just roll/mend the bag into the wire strand.

Ya cant even see it.

They’re $2.50 a box.
I just yank them down every year and buy new ones to replace the ones that have stopped working.

Its all about storage. I buy the cheap walmart lights. This year, I did not have a single strand that did not work. I had two with broken bulbs, but that took all of 10 seconds to fix. I was actually looking forward to having a few broken strands to use for parts for my octo-relays to automate/animate my trees.

I don't wrap mine, if it rains, it may trip the breaker but it's not often. Tripped breaker isn't a big enough deal to hassle with wrapping every plug.

Me neither. The only time I have had issues was when the yard flooded, and then I just had to press a reset button on GFCI and everything was back up.
