Random luck like Coastal Carolina. How long do you think it will be before they repeat?

Michigan was a preseason top 20 team this season
In 2016 Coastal Carolina was preseason #23 in a couple polls. Won 55 games. Good teams, winning a championship always takes some luck, but these teams weren’t any more lucky than the average team in the Championship.

Fresno State (4)
Oregon State (3)
Coastal Carolina (2)
Virginia (3)

Sometimes teams can just click.

However, even if UM wins this one, I still favor Vandy because if Rocker is throwing tomorrow, that is about an auto-win for them for how he's been lately.

They have a chance, but Vandy is just so damn good.

Hell, Vandy scoring 5 here wouldn't shock me either.

Their coach has a very mediocre resume
Erik Bakich has done this now at two different places who don't have a history in baseball.

They are good, but they are also a product of the luckiest tournament draw ever.

They beat the #1 UCLA and #8 TX Tech National Seeds twice each and are now 1-0 vs the #2 Seed Vandy. That's a tougher draw than beating FSU at home to get to Omaha.

That’s what I’m wondering. I mean sure he did a lot better at Maryland than anyone else has in recent memory but he never even made the postseason there

Before we talk about success, I’d like to see thee boys handle a Mainieri batting practice.

Then we’ll see how tough they are.

Like others have said, sometimes it's just about winning at the right time. Michigan hasn't been some dominant overpowering team.

Before the NCAAT:
- They went 0-3 against Texas Tech in OOC
- At Dodgertown classic they lost 2/3 to USC/OK St (beat UCLA) in OOC play
- Against conference teams they went 1-3 vs. OSU, 2-3 against Nebraska, 1-2 against Indiana

This wasn't an elite team coming into the tournament. They've just been winning at the right time. They lost a game in the regionals and super regionals and found a way to advance.

I was mistaken about that, but he left a great foundation for the next guy. I remember when I seen them in the Box

When I wrote "random luck" I wasn't just referring to their in-season luck. I mean that Michigan probably lucked out on some players turning out better than anyone imagined they would. They probably had guys get hot at the right time, too, but as you point out, every championship team has that.

Kauffman and Henry starting each of the last 5 games...and they haven't started one game on less than 6 days rest.

Explain Michigan's baseball success

Pepperdine, Fresno State, Coastal Carolina...

Teams get hot at the right times and get lucky with local homegrown talent like...

Tommy Henry, LHP (Drafted 74th OVR) Born Portage, Michigan
Karl Kaufmann, RHP (Drafted 77th OVR) Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Jordan Brewer, OF (Drafted 3rd Rd) St.Joseph, Michigan

This might possibly be the single greatest UM baseball team of all time.

I would also like to share this video of Jordan Brewer's amazing arm in RF
