If anyone’s looking for a light fast racer and are willing to drop some money ($180) check out the Hoka carbon x. Holy footgasm that shoe is fricking amazing

Nah I haven’t gotten to try those yet. I work at a fleet feet and I think we’re set to get those in at some point so I’ll give them a go when we do and report back

It's pretty light I did see that on a review. Never really liked Hoka's for me, but I wouldn't mind trying a pair of these on.

I've bought a lot of running shoes over the last year, and I thought I'd share my opinions on which brands and shoes I thought needed recognition. This is kind of a short list or who's, who of what's been in my shoe quiver.

Obviously this is only my opinion and I'm really tough on my shoes as I go through them very quickly.

Best overall brands.

1.Adidas
2.Brooks
3.Nike

Adidas has been the only brand that has not let me down once. A lot of people will complain that they aren't being innovative enough and that they're losing the shoe wars to Nike (me included) but Adidas has consistency and they last. Every Adidas shoe has lasted over 300 miles for me and Boost, although heavy, is one of the most responsive materials out there. The Boston series is the shoe worth checking out from this brand.

Brooks is another shoe that thrives in consistency. This is a quirky company whose only mission is to deliver a stable product with every model. The Launch is the best everyday running shoe I've encountered this year and is one of the lighter (9.0 oz) offerings from the brand that doesn't sacrifice cushion. I love that Brooks has the balls to call a 12oz shoe "levitate" or "ghost" when more accurate names might be "anchor" or "Pb".

Nike has the best racing shoes out there right now but in my opinion, that's all they got. The Zoom streak is the best racing shoe I've tried and won't break the bank like the other Zoom offerings al la 4%, Turbo, Fly, etc. I ran in the OG Zoom Fly and while it was a great racing shoe, it was only great for the first 100 miles. The Zoom Fly Flyknit is a vast improvement on the Zoom Fly but the Flyknit gives me achilles issues which is why I am no longer considering the 4% and am taking a hard look at the Reebok Run Fast Pro. If you know anything about Nike know this, I have yet to have a Nike shoe last 300 miles. Shoes like the Legend React literally disintegrated at 200 miles.

Boston has the consistency and is the fastest everyday trainer I've used. Running in these shoes is effortless. This is a track day shoe that you can use every single day.

Launch got me through those long miles and the energy return really helped especially after mile 10 or so. This is a comfy shoe that's reactive and pretty soft.

Go Run 6 was a great everyday shoe that did everything pretty good. It has a curved sole that made transitions easy and the foam was just soft enough for longer runs. The Go Run series just keeps getting better and I never would have thought a "cheap" shoe could take me over 300. They are getting more expensive which is unfortunate because Sketchers is known to not last as long as other brands.

Honorable Mention goes to the Escalante. This shoe is money; it's soft, it's responsive, and it's light so it checks all the boxes. It's also zero drop which means my heels and achilles paid the price and my body took months to recover from them. This shoe also lasts 350 miles which is impressive the way that I punish shoes.

Worst Shoes

The 1500 felt like I was smashing rocks with my feet. No energy return from the RevLite foam and it's a heavy shoe for a racing flat. The main issue is the RevLite material and I'll admit it's marketed very well but just because you put lite on the sole of a shoe, doesn't make it true. A full size too small for a size 9 and it still weighed 8.6 ounces which is an incredible feat for a shoe that has as low of a stack height as this one. This shoe is a liar.

The Epic react was the first shoe that Nike launched with it's first in house foam since Lunarlon (before one of you tools well actuallys me, Zoom X foam is licensed to Nike and Reebok and a few other companies). The problem with this shoe is that it's not a running shoe. Nike doesn't say it's a running shoe specifically but lots of sites reviewed it as one because was the first look at the new material in a shoe so I bought it. I know, that's my bad but these things shredded my heels which is something no shoe should ever do and is too bad because it had a great sole. These are unwearable which is a first for me. Epics might be a good shoe, but they are a terrible running shoe.

The Razor 2s are narrow, flat, hard, with a cheap and hot upper. It's got all the feel of a Walmart shoe with none of the comfort or durability of a Walmart shoe. I truly think this is the last shoe Sketchers made before they started making epically good shoes. There is no way Meb ran in these or he wouldn't have put his name on them.

I actually like the Razor 2 upper. I can lock them in tight with no metatarsal pain (my biggest issue with the Nike ZFFK and 4%). I agree they aren’t very breathable, but not like that matters here anyway. I find them no more narrow than the B7’s. Razor 3 is on my radar when I retire these.

I’d love to hear your opinion on the NB Beacon.

I really like my razor 3’s. I do wish I would’ve gone a half size up though. They were very noisy the first hundred miles, Almost like rice crispy’s popping when I would walk And first start a run. Usually after a mile of the noise went away and at around 100 miles it has completely disappeared.

Just went and did a speed session with the razor 2s.

They still rock my socks off for speed.

In somewhat unrelated news, I just took my first step towards Salmoning and bought some Tevas. My transition to hippy is almost complete.

I have numerous camping and fishing trips coming up. My flip flops or camp crocs were just a little underwhelming.
