I saw it mentioned in a thread on reddit so I gave it a google, but Puma actually developed ‘boost’ first. They had partnered with BASF to develop and eventually patent it back in 2013 I think. Ultimately they terminated the partnership and Adidas partnered with BASF and produced Boost as we now know it. Puma sued Adidas over it a few years ago and there was some back and forth. Puma was calling theirs ‘NRGY’, but it looks like they’re now using ‘Hybrid Foam’ which is NRGY Foam injected with their Ignite foam which has been around a while.

I’m not big runner and didn’t really need shoes as my Mizunos have plenty life left, but I’ll try to report back once I get the Pumas.

I’m intrigued to see what you have to say about them. I’ve been in run specialty for a while but haven’t been around puma much.

Bought a pair of Brooks Revel 2 49.97. No tax, no shipping fee. Very similar to the Launch. jackrabbit.com

Been seeing those at Ross for $30. Just not in the market for anything new now but I tried them on and liked them.

Launches still doing you well?

Mostly unknown fact: Puma and Adidas were started by German brothers who split and started their own companies after WWII.

Launches were retired at 350 but were pretty good. These have the same sole just a little heavier. I have to buy a new pair of shoes about every 1.5 months.

Next%s went full release today. Anybody jump on a pair?

Just checked the website - looks like there's plenty of stock left. So maybe no rush to get in on limited stock like with previous models

Bought a pair of the new Peg Turbos but bought an extra of the Flyknit 4% so holding off on the Next% until I burn through those.

The only thing they are missing that the current 4% has is a loop on the back to get them on quickly, which might make them a pain for triathlon. That's my only hesitation.

Nike really downplayed the release compared to the last 4%

Got my Puma Hybrid Astros in today. Really like them so far. Run true to size but surprisingly narrow. Not uncomfortably narrow, just a nice snug locked down narrow. They are a bit on the heavy/chunky side, but with a foam sole that’s expected. Only gripe is the laces aren’t long enough to utilize the netfit custom lacing options. Once we’re in the clear of this stupid storm I’ll give them a test run. Expecting good things.

Anybody recommend the best site as far as ordering a few pairs of shoes and returning 2 of them after trying on/out? I am trying to decide between the NB FC Propel, NB Beacon V2, Peg Turbo 2 and to a lesser extent the Hoka Rincon. For daily type trainer as I'm retiring the Beacon v1.

I'd prefer to shop local, but my local shop doesn't have all of these and also I don't have much free time to drive across town to multiple stores.

Edit: Narrowed it down to the Turbo 2 and NB FC Propel and just went with Dick's as they are the only place online that had them both and I can return the ones that I don't want in store.

Happy to report the Pumas are solid. I don’t have much to compare them to except for my Mizuno Wave Inspires but I ran about 2.5 miles in them yesterday (walked the remaining 1.5 bc it was too damn hot). Compared to the Mizunos, definitely a more cushioned ride, but that was to be expected. I swapped the laces to some longer ones so I could utilize the netfit. I’ll try to get some pictures later. The netfit is legit, can really customize for more lockdown or different foot shapes. Though I’ll say those with wide feet would not find these comfy. They aren’t super narrow, but they feel a tad more narrow than my Mizunos. They are also on the heavy side, so definitely a distance or everyday trainer shoe.

Overall verdict so far, I really really like these shoes. Taking into account I only paid around $60 for them makes them even better. I question the durability of the sole, so that’s TBD...everything else seems built to last.

I'm an amateur runner (just a few miles on a few nights per week). I recently bought some New Balance Beacon V2's and tried them out last night. Love how lightweight they are, and they seem to be plenty comfortable. They snug down nice and tight as well. Only weird thing was it kind of felt like the bottom of the shoe was curved (like I was on rockers), but I got used to that after a couple miles. So far so good!

Should be a fun weekend. Plan is to test these both & return one to Dick’s. Of course the odds of that happening are slim now that they are in my hands. UPS guy showed up literally as I was walking out the door to work. Haven’t even tried either on.

New Balance says the Propel is supposed to be 7.1 oz per size 9. What does that picture say?

I thought I read the same thing and was surprised when I put them on the scale and it read 9.5 (size 10). Looking around now though, I'm not sure where I saw that at. Immediately a slight deterrent as I prefer a lighter trainer ala the Beacon which is around 7.2 IIRC.

I think I'll be returning the Turbo 2's. Put in 6 easy today in them with some somewhat faster paces thrown in. I am just not a fan of the Zoom X/React combo. I like the Zoom X underfoot, but I don't feel like the React gives me enough return, at slower paces at least (which is what I'm in the market for). I much prefer the Zoom X/Carbon Plate (4%).

They felt better at my quicker easy run pace < 7:45, but I have enough shoes in my closet for those type runs (Boston 7, ZF FK, Razor 2). I'm sure they will liven up once broken in, but I'm not willing to gamble $180 on that.

As far as the fit, they fit true to size. Weight is 8 oz/size 10. The upper is breathable and I had no issues with lock down. That said, it seems to wrinkle up when I tighten the laces as tight as I need to, especially the tongue (not sure if this is by design or what, but it's pretty weird). Tongue is pretty thin also, although that didn't bother my metatarsal as much as Flyknit does when locked down tight.

The outsole seems pretty durable but rather loud, which gets on my nerves also. Only exposed React foam is in the heel, the rest is blown rubber.

Bottom line is I can't justify the $180 when I can get a pair of OG Beacons for at least $100 cheaper right now, and fire them up right out of the box for the type of easy run ride I'm looking for.
