About tree fiddy.

No shite 350 and I was bottoming out. Still a comfy casual shoe but I’ll probably never go the Escalante route again. Great shoe but my achilles are still kinda fricked up from them 4 months after retirement.

No achilles issues here yet, but damn they are something else when rounding a corner. No stability at all. It's pretty comical. I think you said it best whereas you feel like you're going to slide off the damn face of the Earth. I'll probably always keep a pair handy for the zero drop, but anxious to upgrade to the 1.5 or Racer for a more stable fit.

I’ve talked about it a bit but after a foot injury last week I’ve been doing a lot of running in my Skechers squishy shoe and really liked it. It’s been in the closet since last Fall when I got them but I wanted something really soft for recovery and busted them out. I had ran in them a little last fall just to try them out but not much.

Skechers GoRun Ultra Road R2

I was able to have a couple of pretty fast (hovering around 8 or lower) runs last weekend and this week and have been really impressed with this shoe. It definitely doesn’t have the kick of a racer but it’s really great for long runs with a lot of cushion. I’d compare it to a Hoka Clifton or the NB FF More.

Heel cup is loose, toe box isn’t extra roomy, you definitely sink in every step , and yes they’re hideous, but dammit if I don’t just really feel comfortable running in them every time. I’ve avoided lower leg strain a good bit that I normally get from flatter shoes.

There are more modern models as I got a 2 year old model for $25. I wouldn’t get them as an everyday trainer by any stretch but I’ve really liked them for the 30 or so miles I’ve put on them this last week.

Good review. They heavy? They look heavy, like ASICS heavy.

Burt, don't you have 300+ miles on your Boston 6? How are they holding up? They are by far my favorite training shoe, but I've been a little reluctant to put too many miles on them. I have a back-up pair for when my current runs are retired.

New to the thread...had no clue this existed. Never really been a runner but was pushed into signing up for the CCC last month. I play soccer, so I’m in relatively good shape...but that’s a different animal. Before the CCC I don’t think I had ever run more than 3 miles in one go.

Before the race I went to LA Running and Walkig Co and got fitted. Tried Brooks, Asics, OnCloud, Mizuno and settled on some Mizuno Wave Inspire 15’s and I love them. Haven’t put a ton of running miles on them since but did about 4 miles the other day.

Just curious bc I see a lot of talk on here about the Nike 4%’s. What exactly is the difference between these race shoes and something like the Mizuno’s I have? Obviously my Mizuno’s are not race shoes, but once I start getting quicker and signing up for more runs, would someone like me who was fitted into a stability shoe be okay to run in a race type shoe like the Nike 4%?

i don't know about the stability answer, but Nike did a project where they wanted to break a 2 hour marathon so they put a bunch of research into the shoe their athletes would wear for it. They settled on a certain type of foam that was most responsive that could hold up for a marathon, and then inserted a carbon plate to keep the toes immobile during running and utilize the back of the foot. they came back with research that it legitimately made people 4% faster.

i think the science is pretty irrefutable, but a $300 shoe can't make up for the training. if you stuck me in a pair of 4%s and Burt in a pair of filas, i'm not outrunning him.

Also worth noting that there are other shoes out there that have a high rate of energy return. Nike's has just proven to be the best of those. You can find shoes at or slightly less than a 3% rate of return (if you want to stick with percentages) for $100 or so less. Some guys on here like Burt run at or near BQT and NYQT. Worth it for them to purchase. Probably not so much for guys like me and 3nOut.

Thanks for the info y’all.

Think my Mizuno’s will suffice just fine for now. Surprised to not see them mentioned in here at all. The snug fit is what drew me to them, felt like my foot was more secure without sacrificing comfort vs the Asics and Brooks.

They are holding up. Probably get 400 out of them. They’ve been relegated to speed work. Heavy for a “flat” but boost is as responsive as any shoe out there save for the FR Run Fast and Vapor.

Has anyone gotten the Mizuno Wave are they comparable to the old Pegasus?

I have a narrow foot and Nike is very narrow. New Balance AbZorb hurts my knees and too wide. Brooks Saucony are too wife for me. Air Max is a joke as I don’t weigh enough for it to work.

I didn’t reply to the guy earlier but I know a lot of people really love Mizuno. The fastest guy in my running group swears by them.

I’ve honestly never tried a pair on because academy and dicks near me don’t carry them.

I’m looking for a neutral light weight narrow like the old Pegasus. The new version added weight again and hate them.

But thank you for giving me some info

Brooks and NB are definitely wider. Altra would be terrible for you as well.

You might keep looking at some Nikes or Mizuno. Adidas isn’t overly wide I don’t believe. Might check Newton or ASICS? I think they’re fairly narrow all in all as well

Yup. Wearing the Wave Inspire 15. I guess it’s on the narrow side, but I like that snug locked in fit. Disclaimer: I'm not a running expert and this is my first “real” pair of running shoes.
