Damn that’s a lot. I grew up working on backside of La Downs and actually worked mutuals for couple Summers.
That’s been a long while but I’d guess there were 3-4 during a meet which was at least 6 months long.

Is it the track surface? Or is it the juice?

They are breaking their legs on purpose they know they will be killed and it is the only way to get away from the beta liberals in L.A.

Heard an interview on this, it's a combination of things causing this. For those thinking it's the hard track that's the cause of all the deaths, the horses are also dying racing in the grass track. Overtraining is one of the culprits, trainers are pushing these horses hard. There is a shortage of racing horses Nationwide which is causing horses that shouldn't really be racing to race. There are more reasons too, it was a fascinating interview.

They might be turf horses but they still train on dirt

It’s the track. You got some juicers out there but there are a lot of horses that cost a lot of money there.

Same thing happened at Santa Anita and Del Mar in 07. Bob baffert famously scratched half ours little brother and sent him to Saratoga to break his maiden

Because of the closeness to the beach and the heat it makes it really hard to keep up the track like other places. That’s always been the case

I'm not one to peddle conspiracy theories, but there are an awful lot of Asian restaurants in the immediate area.

They're really tasty too.

Is this the same track that was used in the short-lived hbo series Luck a few years back? I believe they canceled the show due to pressure from interest groups over the multiple horse deaths?

They opened back up yesterday

Two horses just broke down in the same race

Horses took a bad step crossing over from the downhill turf course

That track needs to redo the surface and shut the downhill
