Pretty obvious to people who don't live on social media/cable news, but still interesting to see the data:

quote:

On social media, the country seems to divide into two neat camps: Call them the woke and the resentful. Team Resentment is manned—pun very much intended—by people who are predominantly old and almost exclusively white. Team Woke is young, likely to be female, and predominantly black, brown, or Asian (though white “allies” do their dutiful part). These teams are roughly equal in number, and they disagree most vehemently, as well as most routinely, about the catchall known as political correctness.

Reality is nothing like this. As scholars Stephen Hawkins, Daniel Yudkin, Miriam Juan-Torres, and Tim Dixon argue in a report published Wednesday, “Hidden Tribes: A Study of America’s Polarized Landscape,” most Americans don’t fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest—including a general aversion to PC culture.

As a great new study by More in Common shows, Americans actually divide into seven tribes:

Progressive activists
Traditional liberals
Passive liberals
Politically disengaged
Moderates
Traditional conservatives
Devoted conservatives

Traditional and devoted conservatives are far outside the American mainstream. The views of progressive activists are even further away from the views of average Americans. The rest has a lot in common. They form an “exhausted majority.”

80% of Americans now believe that “political correctness is a problem in our country.”

Age barely predicts how Americans feel about political correctness: Even among 24 - 29 year olds, the group most receptive to political correctness, 74% think it’s a problem. And among the youngest, those below 24, the number goes back up to 79%!

Race does an even worse job than age at predicting how Americans feel about political correctness: Whites are more open to political correctness than average Americans
The groups most likely to say PC is a problem are Asians (82%), Hispanics (87%) and Native-Americans (88%)

The only small part of the standard race story that is confirmed is that African-Americans are least likely to dislike political correctness. But three quarters of them only 4% less than whites and 5% less than the American average—still say that PC is a problem.

So if age and race don’t predict support for political correctness, what does? Wealth and education. 83% of Americans making less than $50,000 dislike PC; 70% making over $100,000 do. 87% of Americans who never attended college dislike PC; 66% with a grad degree do.

Pretty obvious, as evidenced by the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States.

I'd assume most people are like me, don't really give a shite but get annoyed that I'm constantly told I'm privileged.

I couldn't give a frick less if you're gay, straight, cis, bi, tri, black, purple, cat person, or Polish, just shut the hell up and better yourself. Everyone jerking themselves off about being victims just kills me.

If someone can't understand that 95% of people in this country are fed up with all of the political and social B.S., they might be retarded.

I don't watch the news on TV, don't read the paper, don't read the news online, and I'd almost rather accidentally click on the soccer board than the Poli Board. I mean, frick, can we get something good going on for a change?

And this is why Trump won, and republicans control the house AND senate

It is amazing to me the miscalculation the Democrats made, amazing

The old republican guard was all but dead, then the democrats breathed new life into them by thinking the vocal social media lynch mob represented the average american

Where are you that you're constantly told that?

I'm pretty sure TD is the only place I go to physically or virtually that I ever see discuss white privilege.

They also did a poll with feminazis, and i'm sorry to tell many of you beta liberals, but even the faminazis want their men to be Alphas.

Women don't like pussies, so you liberal betas are gonna be sidling up to them with no pussy as the prize. sorry chumps.

Where do you live? I've seen/heard it discussed many times when I lived in New Orleans. Now that I live in Lafayette, I only ever hear it discussed when my friends from New Orleans come over

Texas, DFW area.

If you discuss white privilege a lot, there's a solid chance we don't have enough in common that we'll be friends.

Try living on the West Coast, or larger cities in the NE. I9t's a pretty constant theme.

Two of the people who bring it up are SOs of my actual friends. I wouldn't be hanging out with these people necessarily by choice.

The third is someone who I've been friends with for years, but he recently fell into that trap (probably due to his SO).

This. Was in Seattle over labor day and the woke folk were out in force. Annoying to say the least, but at least they didn't shut downtown down like what happened in Portland.
