I would like to see the actual cost of charging an EV versus a same size car with an ICE on a monthly basis.

Including prorated cost of infrastructure funded by taxpayers.

Some really quick and general math on Level 2 chargers...

Level 2 chargers can put out anywhere from 3kW to 19kW per hour. For easy math, let's call it 10kWh (the middle would be 11kW), which comes out to ~23 miles recharge per hour.

The average person drives ~40 miles per day so we'll charge it for 2 hours per night. 20kWh. Times 30 nights in a month = 600kWh per month

So the average for a household with a level 2 charger should be ~600kWh per month. The average home uses ~893kWh per month.

So under-estimating it, the average household would increase their electricity consumption by 67% with a Level 2 charger.

Level 1 chargers:

Level 1 chargers can put out anywhere from 1.3 to 2.4 kW per hour. Let's split it down the middle and call it 1.8kW per hour. This comes out to ~40 miles of range in 8 hours (so right at the average miles driven per day). 8*1.8 = 15.01 kWh per day just to drive the average amount.

30 days of that type of charging = 450.3 kWh per month. So for increasing monthly electricity usage by ~50%, you effectively can't do anything other than your average drive. Ever.

So even with the most rudimentary math, it's an insane increase on power consumption.

My gasoline vehicle gets about 20 mi/gal and at $3.40 / gal = 17 cents/mi.

Model 3 Tesla (long range) is 75 KWh but losses in charging are ~5%. Tesla gets ~ 4 mi/KWh and at 15 cents/KWh = 4 cents/mile. Tesla standard charger is 10 KW so an 80% charge would take ~ 6.5 hrs.

I can fill my gas tank in under 10 min, not 6.5 hrs. No EV for me

This is so wrong. This has been well planned and thought out. You will have nothing, and you will like it!

80 mile per gallon petro cars is the only way to ever get to EV readiness - and maybe not even then

Not exactly what you’re asking for but my Boss and I drove from San Antonio to the valley and around a bit in an ice and a Tesla. I had a Ford Escape (gets 35-40 mpg), he used a model 3. This was in May when it was at its worst. $3.90

Our total costs for the trip were $90 (me)and his was $65. I had about 50 more miles than he did.

What if gasoline was back to $2-2.50/gal? Half, like $45 for your trip?

Absolutely - I keep reminding people that these are not 'problems' to them - these are the features they depend upon. A never ending production line for problems that just cry out for 'new solutions' - rinse - repeat.

I just wish a massive earthquake would demolish that entire state and slide into the ocean.
