Miles to Michigan?

In your opinion, how far along do you think Miles to Michigan was in 2007?
I think they had a verbal agreement in place. If you go back and watch Herbstreit’s announcement, he mentions Jon Tenuta as the DC. That’s oddly specific if it’s something pulled out of thin air. Why Herbstreit would break that news on the day Miles was in the SEC championship is beyond me.
I figure since the heavy lifting of the LSU search is done it’d be fun to speculate on this topic where we will probably never get an answer.

I don’t believe Michigan ever offered Miles. Lloyd Carr swung the big dick up there, and he despised Miles.

Because they were trying to torpedo the deal.

Bingo. People didn't realize Miles was an idiot back then.

Didn't Miles bang his old lady or something like that?

I think I remember Miles saying in an interview after the National Championship game that he was using back channels to talk with UM, but don’t know if they had any agreement.

I’ve always believed Miles had a verbal agreement in place. Lloyd Carr and his faction despised Miles so he leaked it to Desmond Howard. Herbie ran with the story.
Skip went to Miles asking if this was true. Miles denies it. Miles tries to reach out to the UM AD but can’t get a hold of him because he’s out sailing (this is odd b/c who sails in December in MI?). Miles realizes that he’s about to walk into a snake pit if he goes to MI and gives his infamous damn strong team speech
Chaos ensues, Miles finds himself playing for a NC and the rest is history.
I’ve always believed that if we’re not in the championship game Miles is moving to Ann Arbor instead of Rich Rod.
ETA: Apparently Desmond was in Hawaii that day. I found this quote interesting
This was taken from a Bleacher Report Q&A with Desmond Howard.

I don’t think it was Carr’s wife, but the rumors were that he had been involved with another coach’s wife. Again, all just rumor and hearsay.

Gary Moeller's old lady, rumor

In hindsight the affair with another coaches wife is totally believable

Nobody will ever really know the whole truth except the principals involved.
The only thing that does seem clear is that there was some sort of tension between Les and Carr.

Did Les have a UM poon pad back in the day too?

I always heard that some troll left Herbie a voice mail, pretending to be Desmond Howard, saying Miles to Michigan was done.

Miles banged Moellers wife. People say it was a rumor, but Moeller was arrested for drunk and disorderly when his wife told him over dinner
Carr got the job at UMich because of the downward spiral Moeller went into. All of Schembechlers people blamed Miles. Bo reportedly said that man (Miles) will never work at UM again
We now know from Miles history at OSU and LSU that he was a creeper, and sex was his driving force. So its highly likely all of it is true
With all that being said, UM never offered Miles. AD Brandon flew to BR to break the news to Miles that he couldnt get enough support for his hire. Hoke was announced the next day
Miles himself has said they never could reach Mich to see if they were going to offer in '07. So he signed the extension with LSU
quote:
Michigan football coach Gary Moeller was so drunk after his arrest for punching a police officer that jail staff refused to admit him and sent him to a hospital, according to police reports.
Meanwhile, school officials said Tuesday that athletic department aide Keith Molin will head its internal investigation of Moeller’s conduct Friday night at the Excalibur restaurant in Southfield.
His wife Ann told police she argued with Moeller when he would not stop drinking, and she went to sit in their car.
After she left, Moeller became rowdy, shouting, banging on the table, trying to pick fights and harassing his waitress and others, witnesses told police.
``I love you. I love you,? he told his waitress, according to her statement. ``Look in my eyes. You’re not listening to me.?

The story back then was that Les knew that Moeller was having an affair. He told Mrs. miles who then told Mrs. Moeller. Moeller and Carr were furious with Les for betraying the boy's club. The video of a drunk Moeller is largely incoherent but he definitely mentions Kathy Miles, though the context is clouded in the gibberish of a sloppy, crying drunk. I can't swear that that is the true story but it does fit. Lloyd Carr is(was?) that much of a pure jackass and Moeller and Miles were both dimwitted buffoons.
