I'm lining someone up to try daily walks with her while I'm at work. I will try to walk her before work daily as well and see if that helps her anxiety/energy.
Like I mentioned we're trying more types of 'calming' treats. I might need to ask her vet for options for medication?
I am happy to try things, believe me. I truly appreciate all of the advice.

I get that. Maybe you could pay a neighborhood kid to come by and walk the dog or play with him outside during dinnertime. Too bad I'm not in BR anymore, that would be a DREAM job for my oldest!

my wife's dog is pretty neurotic and my old lab developed some behavioral issues once he got cancer as well. trazadol (i think that's what it's called) daily for each of them have worked wonders.

There are people who adopt dogs who are old and losing their long time home for whatever time they have left.
I have done it 4 times in the last 12 years and am looking into another dog now. The dogs are my family.
OP, don't dump your poor dog in a kill shelter; find a loving home for her/him to live out the rest of it's days.
ps, you are a crappy person to even think of doing this after you have been that dog's family for 11 years.

Man, this thread is brutal. To the OP, do what you think is best. Having three kids is stressful enough I’m sure much less a dog that requires constant attention. 11 years is along time to rehome a dog but it’s understandable

This is what I was thinking too. It reads a lot like a troll thread. A proposal that is kind of ridiculous on it's face, rolling out new justifications in response to comments, claiming to be unable to take simple steps that would alleviate some of the concerns, etc. etc.

That’s awesome, I want to do Sr rescue once I retire
Since I’m a ways from that I will foster every so often
When they get adopted it’s tough, doesn’t matter I only had them a month or 2 & know they are going to a great home

Dude I’ve had my Catahoula Lab Mix for 14 1/2 years. Were there times when I was at my wits end dealing with her? Of course, but you don’t just give up on a dog.
She even has incontinence now, but I’m still just adjusting my schedule to help her because the day she’s gone I’ll be devastated.
Dogs are family, you make it work.

If I got rid of my dog when it got hard I wouldn’t have my dog anymore.
But ya know what, I put more resources into her because she’s my family. I got her a trainer and we worked on things as life progressed and different challenges arose.
You are that dogs life. Don’t give her away. Figure it out

A friend of mine had a great lab that he loved, but his parents moved when he went to grad school and there was no room for the dog. It killed him, but the dog had to go to the farm.
(not me)
And 2 years later he got it back from the farm. Lived w/ the dog for years afterward. Dog was a friend to his new wife and first kid.
Maybe one of these dog lovers that are condemning you could offer to adopt or foster your dog.

I adopted a 12 year old dog that was going to be put down. She was both people and dog aggressive. It was a lot of work, but regular long controlled walks turned her into a new dog. Lots of structure (discipline and loving positive reinforcement) also helped. She’s 17 now and still goes in 1.5 mile walks every day.
Your dog needs tons of exercise and long hard walks. Whether it’s you, someone in your family or a paid walker, your dog needs that.
It sounds like she’s never had any training or structure - she needs that as well.
The jumping, dinner time fiascos, opening doors, etc., can all be eliminated or greatly reduced by training, structure, walks and possibly medication.
She could turn into an amazing family pet.
