What bank offers the best service for a basic checking account?

When I call a bank, I want to talk to a person pretty much immediately, not a computer. Is there such thing anymore or is that a thing of the past?

Charles Schwab gets my vote. “Hi, this is Nancy in Denver, how can I help you today?”

I bank with a regional bank and have my own banker assigned to my account. I call her on her cell whenever I need something.

This is why community banks still exist.

Seconded.

To answer a previous poster, I've never had a problem finding an Allpoint ATM to take out money. USAA also reimburses a certain amount of ATM fees each month if you have to go out-of-network in a pinch.

The only person who might be frustrated is someone who has to deposit money regularly.

Bank of America will still treat you like a hobo who just fell off a freight train. After being with BofA for all of my adult life, I’m finally working to extricate myself from their web. I’ve always used a local bank where I had a contact for fast money real estate deals. But BofA is where I’ve done the majority of my regular banking transactions. I just got used to their excellent online banking services. But God help you if you have an issue. Platinum status means nothing. You’ll still have to stay on hold for two hours to speak to an actual (somewhat) human being!

Anybody but Citibank. Tried to open a high yield savings account with them to park the money we made from selling our house this summer. Because we just moved into a rental house they couldn't verify my wife's address and closed the account. They easily took the deposit via ACH transaction from Capital One, but say they can only send a check for the refund. My address was verified, but the address was incorrect and I've been jumping through hoops to verify my correct address now.

Why anyone would want to talk to a person at a bank is beyond me. I’ve gone 15 years without stepping foot inside one.

I’ll take having all my banking needs available at my fingertips all day every day.

I don't want to call the bank for any reason ever. But when my debit card (which I never use) gets hacked repeatedly, and I have to go through an automated system and then sit on hold for an hour, well that shite gets pretty old.

Bank of Zachary. ask for Josh Prejean. A person will always answer and their on line banking is super. Anything you can do to keep money invested locally is a plus.

I have an account with Keesler FCU and love it. Great staff at every location and never on hold longer than 1 minute to talk to a rep
