Looking at a ski trip in March 2022. I’d like to cash in my Southwest points and fly into Montrose. Any tips on getting from Montrose into Crested Butte? Not finding much online in terms of shuttle services.

Thanks in advance for helping out!

The one time I went to Crested, I flew into Denver and had to make my way downtown to catch a bus. The bus made it all the way out towards Gunnison or Montrose, then I transferred to a shuttle to get the rest of the way to Crested. Easy process, but took a while. I did just look up the RTA shuttle and it mentions
quote:

The RTA Free Bus does not stop at the Gunnison – Crested Butte Regional Airport and the buses are not equipped to handle any baggage other than carry on items. Baggage other than ski / snowboard equipment and carry on items are not allowed on RTA buses. For information about ground transportation to the airport, please see our Air Service information page.
Gunnison Valley RTA

So I think you're stuck with a shuttle. Found a few already, posting links below.

ETA: Forgot I had left my winter coat on that first bus ride at the transfer point and didn't realize it until the shuttle to Crested. Ended up skiing in a fur coat, had a nice retro look

We always fly into Gunnison

Looks like it’s $117 each way from montrose to CB on alpine express LINK

The shuttle out of gunnison is about $30 each way

That’s a great site, thanks.

Unfortunately, when I pop in my potential travel dates and drop off location, it quotes me at $858 r/t..

Montrose to CB is still quite a trek. About 2 hours. Last time I went to CB we flew in to Colorado Springs (direct) pretty cheaply and then rented a car and drove to CB. Took about 3.5 hours. Not ideal, but if you’re looking for a cheaper route, that’s probably it.

I’ve recently been pricing trips in to Montrose to get to Telluride, and it’s easily $700+ for a round trip on all the dates we have available.

Flying into one of the niche Colorado airports close to the resorts during ski season (especially March) is extremely in demand. Lots of people who do the same are made of money. I’d be surprised at prices below $600-700, unfortunately

Flying into Bozeman for my dates is currently at $850. For a family of 4 that stings a little.

Alpine express is your best bet for a shuttle.

A lot of the shuttles from MTJ to CB aren't running because of road outages due to construction. Apparently the road is basically only open on Sat and Sun (an hour or 2 during week days with big waits). Not sure how long that's going to be for. I'd fly into GUC for sure though
