Note - this is somewhat of an off topic rant. Let's be honest, Baton Rouge isn't the prettiest of places. While many of us think logically and believe that a coach (even a current big P5 coach) should have LSU at the top of their list because championships, talent, etc., the quality of life aspect plays a role too (See Marcus Freeman). Money is the only way to overcome this dilemma when competing against other top brand teams. Would you all agree with this? I'm not going to sit here and act surprised when a big P5 coach turns us down. But I will be surprised if we didn't throw enough money at him to compensate for what we know isn't exactly the imperial city. I just think we are going to have outbid other programs, and outbid them by quite a margin, if we ever want to get out top tier or "home run" candidates.

If this is the case, then wtf have USC or UCLA been doing?

Is Norman an amazing place to live?

It’s ok. Not bad and not great. 30 min drive to OKC which has a lot to offer

Exactly. Most of the SEC schools are in small towns in the south - not necessarily beautiful locations in the mountains or beaches and definitely not in prominent cities (except Vandy).

You ever been to Tuscaloosa? It’s nothing special. Any family can live well making several millions a year in Baton Rouge

Small towns in the South that are noticeably less dirty and have drastically lower crime rates than Baton Rouge. I'm not a BR hater by any means. I just think it's foolish to act like BR is a positive or even a neutral factor when heading into a coaching search.

If you make LSU head coach money you will never have to step foot in the bad parts of BR

USC is in South Central LA. People literally tried to burn it down in the late 60's.

I submit that when you're making millions of dollars you probably only have to see the nicer parts of town.

You don’t need LSU HC money to do that either.

BR is more or less the same as it’s always been.

Freeman was attracted to the hustle and bustle of South Bend, with its world class hiking and sushi restaurants?

The truth is most major colleges for football have undesirable locations. Tuscaloosa, College Station, Clemson, Baton Rouge, Tallahassee, State College, Auburn, etc. That doesn’t hurt recruiting efforts much at all, and Baton Rouge isn’t so bad that it would be any different.

Austin, Miami, Madison, and Los Angeles are the exceptions to the rule.

Yea but what if another big school offers the same amount, or even close to the same amount of money? See where I'm going?

I think, in general, the mention of any location is a ready excuse for anyone already pre-disposed to say no.

Let's be honest- every place, for the most part, has great areas and terrible areas. Money is the difference... not the name of the town.

actually it isn't pretty damn nice. OK City has improved alot over the last two decades. It's not my cup of tea- but I've seen much worse.

There's really nice and really shitty areas to every city. These coaches that are making millions and millions of dollars aren't going to be anywhere near those shite hole parts of town.

This thread is dumb. Baton Rouge is fine. It's very easy to stay away from the bad areas, especially if you're a multimillionaire living in a mansion on Highland.

The worst thing about living in BR is the traffic, which is atrocious. Other than that, you probably have to send your kids to private school, but most people with money do this anyway.

All of the places you named are either (a) less dirty and crime ridden than BR, or (b) offer far more attractions than BR.
