No you misunderstood

The Baton Rouge Kingfish NEVER beat the IceGators. Like ever. Therefore they are the IceGators’ bitches.

I still have my diecast zamboni and Jason hockey mask that were given out to the first 100 in attendance. Also a t-shirt autographed by the team. My next door neighbor was Bob Hutchinson, the graphic designer of the Kingfish logo. Those were the golden years in BR.

The pandemonium of when the Whitney Bank blimp drove around dropping Piccadilly coupons and Cotton Eye Joe played while the spotlights went crazy around the Centroplex.

Going to the Kingfish was a highlight of my college days in Baton Rouge. I barely remember any of it though.......

Great late 90s memories

Cotton Eyed Joe
Closest to the pin puck toss
The blimp that flew around and dropped Picadilly coupons
Cam Brown
Mardi Gras uniforms
The spotlights
Them losing
Being stuck in traffic in the Centroplex parking garage for hours after the game

mud bugs ARE still the greatest La hockey team. They still play in the old Hirsch but different league & age group. Lot of fun to watch.
Is SHV the only La hockey team left?

Went to a few games. Had a lot of fun. A few of the Kingfish players went into the NHL.

IIRC, the team out of Lafayette was a little better usually.

Otherwise known as the IceGators’ bitches

The IceGators were the quintessential "I went to the fights and a hockey match broke out" team.

I remember one match, there was a guy in the box that got put there because all night he and another guy had been going at it and he'd picked up a fighting or roughing penalty the last time they got into it. The penalty timer ran out and the timekeeper opened the box, but the player didn't leave the box. The play on the ice developed and the guy he was beefing with that got him thrown in the box was skating up the boards on the side where the penalty boxes were and wasn't paying attention to what was happening in the box.

When the guy carrying the puck got so close that contact would be unavoidable, the guy in the box put one skate on the ice, one solidly in the box for leverage, and threw a vicious elbow right into the head/neck area of the guy he'd been fighting with all night.

Everybody was kung-fu fighting after that.

I have NEVER seen three people get 10 minute penalties at the same time. I think the IceGator's total penalty minutes on that one incident was something like 44. The one guy who threw the elbow got himself a match penalty with 10 minutes and an ejection, two other guys got game misconducts that come with 10 minutes and ejection, two other guys got five minute majors for fighting, and two more guys got 2 minute minors for roughing.

The sin bin was full the rest of the match, as this all happened late in the match and there was less than five minutes on the clock.

How funny. I came here to post that my cousin designed the logo. Bob/Susan are family.

The Kingfish used to come out to the old Gator Bar in Prairieville on Sunday nights when I worked the door there. Always accompanied, of course by a band of skate chasers, aka, hockey whores.

Chuck-a-puck

“Who rocks you? Kingfish do! Who socks you? Kingfish do!”

Edit: is Cam Brown’s #44 still hanging from the rafters in the River Center?
